    Default Weapon Lights

So, I am thinking of upgrading my TLR-1. However, it is hard to find parts for the damn thing. I don't mean the switches, or the different rail options stuff, I mean new bulb and lamp assemblies. I can find a "large hole" bezel assembly, but nothing else that has to do with the head. I want to make it brighter, turn it into the HL basically. Does anyone know where lamp parts are for these?

I have just considered buying an HL and calling it done, but if I go that route, I had seen another light.... Has anyone here used an Inforce APL?

    Inforce APL - 200 lumen
    TLR-1 - 300 lumen
    TLR-1 HL - 630 lumen

I realize it's not an answer to your question but if you want your TLR-1 to be brighter, it seems the Inforce APL would be somewhat going in reverse: dimmer than the standard TLR-1 you already have.

The TLR HL is good but only has 1.25 hour run time. The 300 lumen model has 2.5 hour run time. I thought I read somewhere that the naked eye cannot differentiate more lumens past 200 or 300 or it's minimal. I have been using the 300 lumen model and love it.

By by changing parts out are you losing reliability? Are you really going to "save" any money by modding it yourself?

The Inforce is a cool concept, but the brightness leaves a lot to be desired for outdoor use. Indoors, it is passable. The first ones were 125 lumens, and those are still in the market being sold as new. The 200 lumen ones are a bit brighter, but they can't touch the Streamlights. Realize that if you have an older TLR-1, if might well be as low as 80 lumens. They bump them frequently. The HLs will scorch eyeballs, and to me, they are a bit too much indoors and too wide for a rifle, which I prefer the HP which has a focused beam. I can ID and hit targets out past 300 yards with the HP whereas the HL is good to about 200 yards, but with a much wider flood.

The TLR3 is 90 lumens and the TLR4 is 110 lumens which are, to me, are brighter than my original TLR1.

    Something to consider...
    Just my 2 cents...

My bedside weapons run TRL-1s, or the Surefire X300. For me those are more than enough light to illuminate any room in my home. I can still actually deal the brightness going from sleeping to total light.

I also keep a Streamlight Stinger HL at my bedside which is 600 lumens. Takes me a few seconds to adjust to that amount of light from pure darkness.

If I was up at night, running a patrol or worked at night and my eyes were already awake and needed the HL to overcome outside lighting, then I would upgrade. But, for my usage, I find the 2-300ish lumens to be more than enough.

I'd be curious to know if the author of that theory ever uses the high-beam lights in his car...

Whether or not it's beneficial is another topic entirely, but I found the HL version of the TLR-1 to be substantially brighter than the TLR-1s version.

Not to mention, it might mean you can't tell the difference by being blinded by it.

I liked the Inforce WML as it was perfect for a 12'oclock position. Was not happy with the 200 lumen only, I do like the option of momentary and constant on.

Inforce has a 500 Lumen WML upgrade coming out.
