Change of address from Jefferson County Problem

I renewed my CCW about 6 months ago in Jefferson county, which is where I lived at the time. About 2 weeks ago I moved to Adams county.

I called Jefferson County Sheriff and the records lady said I must do my change of address with Adams County Sheriff because of a new law that passed. I called Adams County Sheriff and Denise with their records department said I need to do that with Jefferson County Sheriff.

Denice even spoke with her commanding officer. He said that law is about renewing your CCW in the new county you move to, not a simple change of address.

I called Jefferson County Sheriff records department again and had to leave a message. I'm waiting on a reply. Can anyone help me on what to do next?

OK, Jefferson County Sheriff department got it worked out. This new law only applies to renewing a CCW. I guess you must renew in the county of residence. This wasn't the case before. A simple address change on a valid CCW is done at the county you got the CCW in.

Please confirm. This is what I found on Weld County FAQ
I had no problem after moving to Adams. Another renewal is coming soon mid next year.

Answer: Per Colorado Revised Statutes, you can renew with the agency that originally
issued your permit. You must submit your renewal application in person. If that is not
convenient, you have the option to apply for a new permit in the county that you currently
reside.

Yep, you do an address change with the county that issued the permit. As long as the permit has not expired. I went in person which allowed them to notarize it for me. So I didn't have to find an official notary. And I picked up the new card with updated address at the same time. They did not take another picture. And yes, I was told I had 30 days to update address or it was a chargeable offense.

I'm not sure how old that PDF is. I was told a new law passed that requires you to renew the permit at the current county of residence. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if it matters if the permit has expired or you're renewing it before it expires.

Yes, as said by weld county themselves to me this info on their website is now out of date and are trying to update it with new info from the new laws that passed. Kind of crazy the info is out of date but still on their website.

Good question. I'm not sure of a distinction between renewal and getting a new CCW. I guess I haven't encountered that yet.

You will for sure get a new CCW card with that county's sheriff info and your current address on it. You won't have a CCW card from both counties however. I hope that answers your question.
