More and more I'm convinced that the ONLY policy solution to mass shooters is to relax laws/regs related to the carrying of guns and get MORE guns out there "on the streets", in the hands of good guys.
On OReilly last night, OReilly asked General Ralph Peters if he thought personnel on bases should be armed. Peters was aghast and said "absolutely not" and automatic weapons would make for a shooting gallery if a nutjob opened fire. They never discussed allowing handguns on bases, whether open carried or CCW - and thats all it would take to make bases safe again.

so.... I guess the law enforcement strategy is to let the active shooter do his/her thing, and just follow the bodies to find them?

LE strategy is to confront & engage ASAP. Don't wait for backup and find out what is going on like they did with Columbine.
Police tactics acknowledge that immediate suicide is a likely result of confrontation.

Leadership strategy (the general's comment) is for LE to follow the bodies to find the shooter.

Edit: The general's policy is as much a CYA maneuver and lack of bold leadership as anything political. He is not going to be held accountable if some nutjob breaks policy and shoots a bunch of people. He will be held accountable every time there is any incident with an authorized weapon.

Once again, a whole of speculation just hours after an incident. I wish we as a society were patient enough to let the investigation have a chance to get actual information before we started blaming PTSD or Ambien or whatever. People on this board are as bad as CNN or ABC with the uninformed speculation and attribution.
