The new Cherokee(KL platform) is just a front wheel drive platform. Might as well buy a Ford Escape, or the brand new Explorer with the power steering that fails at 44k miles. I'll stick with my Jeep Liberty, real axle in the rear, and may be IFS in front, it'll still outdo anything the trailhawk will wish it could do.

that truck is mall rated for sure,

if you want to do more than a dirt road, that is the wrong vehicle

if you want something comfy and offroad capable get a used landcruiser and spend the 30K you saved on a lift kit, bumpers gears, winch, lockers etc.

This has probably been said already here in the thread but dont have time to read the whole thing.

JEEP started going downhill when they started putting Independent suspension on the front of the vehicles and got rid of the tractor motor known as the Inline 6. The JK in Jeepers 'terms (aka wrangler) is the only REAL JEEP left, even with the wimpy V6. the Rubicon version is the best off the line off road vehicle there is, but you pay out the nose for it. Real JEEPs are built, not bought.

I have an XJ (old skool cherokee) got 209,000 on it and runs like a champ, goes anywhere I point it.

If you want a vehicle that is good in the snow on city streets and driving to a trail to watch other people actually wheel, pass this up until the reviews come out. If you have to have a JEEP now and want luxury, get a grand Cherokee.

    My .02 cents

If you are basing car buying decisions off of Consumer reports, that is kind of like trying to get advice on dating women in San Francisco.

I just bought a 2014 4runner and I love. They have the trail version that is right around 42000 msrp.

The new Cherokee would make a great daily driver especially where I live. The big question mark is the transmission. The ZF 9speed is made by a German company and looks to be used in Land Rover, Honda, and Chrysler front/all wheel drive applications. The Cherokee was the first put in production, and there were software glitches that delayed the car. My sister was looking at it, and I will say the same thing I told her. If you plan to own and sell the car during the warranty period, go for it. If you plan to drive past the warranty period, go with something else. The transmission may be great, but it also may be crap...don't know.

On another note, I love my '06 Liberty CRD. It's a great vehicle with no issues out of the typical maintenance. The 2.8 turbo diesel is great with all my mountain driving and good mpg. It does fine on most of the mountain trails; not a rock crawler, but I have a couple of K5s for that.

We use to have an old Cherokee with the inline 6 and it would flat fly up the mountain with plenty of pedal leftover and go anywhere, I guess that is why when Jeep came out with this version it caught my attention. I am very skeptical of 1st gen vehicles but then I keep justifying it by saying it is a Jeep after all and they wouldn't produce a lemon. Im not looking for a rock crawler but more of a small SUV daily driver and weekend getaway with short trips to Wyoming to shoot my toys with an old friend. I also hear that Chevy is coming out with a new version of the Colorado, suppose to have plenty of power but again, another first gen vehicle.
