Tell me about Grand Junction
Hey guys, I'm looking at a mining sales position in Grand Junction. My parents met there 35 something years ago an have told me a little bit about the area. But what should I know? Is it a good place to live? Any insight on gun ranges, events, clubs etc?

Well, it's the conservative side of the state if nothing else... Landscape is more of high mountain desert than prairies like we have over here.

Summers are hot as hell, but the winters are really mild. Tons of places to shoot everywhere not too far away. Fruita national monument is awesome. Moab is about an hour to an hour and a half away. Has a Cabala's, Sportsman's Warehouse. Yeah there is a drug problem over there. The cooks live out in the desert taking advantage of the additional privacy and use of agricultural chemicals to make the stuff without getting busted. Then they ship the stuff over here, so you will hear about more meth fires and it is a concern if you are buying a house over there.
I have family over there. It is a small city and college town. A lot of retail moved in during the energy boom so it is a little easier to get the things you need. Garfield and Mesa Counties were hit pretty hard from the Ritter Rules and the recession. The western slope is a boom and bust kind of place. Be really careful with housing and don't buy high over there or you will lose your shorts. Gas and fuel is a lot more expensive over there. The south side of the interstate along the river is really green (a lot of orchards). The north side of the interstate looks like a nuclear fallout zone. It is a pretty warm dry climate. There are a wealth of places to shoot, fish, camp, wheel, and hunt over there. I would love to work over there when my kid is done with high school.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Keep us posted on what you find and what your experiences are. I've thought I may like to live over there after the kids are out too but know little about it.
Lots of roads with fractions in them. Has most of the amenities of the front range. Decent place to live.

Wine country if you like wine. Lots of fruit and veggies, can be grown or bought close by.

Grand Mesa is awsome and in your backyard. Close to great fishing in CO, Utah and WY.
