You know (have seen) there are cameras at nearly every intersection with a stoplight in Aurora...all 4 directions...mounted to the top of the stoplight supports?

According to the government those don't save data. Ya Right.

My question on those is.... Why use a CAMERA instead of SENSORS if you are just detecting the presence of a car to control the traffic light. Seems like overkill. Why install a camera if you are not going to use the CAMERA for what a CAMERA is for?

The camera based systems work much better and take less maintenance. They'll detect me on a bicycle while older signals I have to go over and hit the crosswalk (or wait for a car). Road damage and repairs won't destroy the sensor when it is up on a pole.

There are fringe bonuses as well, the whole big brother thing
