Taking my 3 yr old camping the year for the first time at Taylor. My father in law has been going these since he was a little boy, he introduced me to this spot and I plan on taking my kids there at least once a year. We usually go for a week, eat what you catch (fish), shoot, ride, climb, hike... Aka be free!!

I used to go to Wellington Lake a few times a year with my grandmother when I was younger. She'd tow up the hunting camper with her Chevy Astro. Fond memories of fishing the lake and playing on the rock mounds.

I now do "real" camping in either Roosevelt, Arapahoe, or Pike national forest, but Wellington Lake brings back some serious nostalgia.

You can park outside the Lost Creek Wilderness Area and hike in. No fear of your vehicle getting towed as lots of people are backpacking in.

We usually end up in the Comanche Peak Wilderness. There's a few good trails up there, tons of hiking and great off the map camping spots.

Lol, I always have to make the distinction when people ask me if I want to join them for a camping trip. Never again will I be suckered into going somewhere with bathroom facilities, power hookups for trailers, and check in stations.

As long as the following are all true, I'll take it:
-No cell phone reception is available
-There are no pre-made sites or fire pits
-You are in the national forest, thus can shoot anywhere so long as it's not over a body of water/road or within 300 feet of a building
-You need a 4x4 to get there
-There aren't any sort of facilities

If I could find some people who were more inclined, I'd like to do some backpacking camping complete with land nav.

We're trying to do a first camping trip with daughter this year. We're all likely to learn something.

We took our boy when he was a little over 2. It was really pretty easy. It was his first night sleeping outside and he had a blast.
