What was the sleeping surface? If you were touching the ground, and she wasn't, that would explain it. Also, if she is a kid, maybe she isn't compressing the stuffing as much.

Those thin self inflatable air mats, with a blanket on top. For both. And wait, are you saying I'm fat?

Sometimes the baffles behind the zippers don't come down to cover the zippers -- this creates significant air leakage and heat loss. It is a particular danger for those of us who come closer to filling out the available volume of the bag (cough cough). The other thing I'm sure you're aware of but others might not understand is the importance of having clean dry sleeping clothes -- sleeping in the same clothes you wore and sweated in during the day is a recipe for a cold night.

Your daughter looks like the age of my son when we started nine years ago. He grew up out there; we started in a tent and now use a pop-up trailer. Although sometimes we still use a tent. I have a rule though; I won't camp in any place that has more people around then my house. I can get the pop-up back in some pretty rough trails. Some of my favorite places are up by Webster Pass and Divide. Although, I have some places I go down by the Ben Tyler trail.

You know, that most awesome thing about taking the kids out with you and letting them enjoy the outdoors, is they will be doing the same thing you are doing now when they have grown. They will want to get out and take their kids to enjoy the outdoors as well. Reminiscing about the time that you are taking them out right now later in life.

Another related note, I just found out I have a 50% or greater disability rating from the VA (haven't been oficially notified yet, but I got a letter from the DAV telling me they have been notified) Went into e-benefits and sure as heck I can generate a letter with a 50% rating on it! I just sent in my application for a National Park "Access Pass" from USGS. Now I can do National parks for free!

Sorry to hear you have that level of disability but glad you're getting something from it.

Apparently, even persons with 10% or more can request the Pass through USGS. If you have a VA rating go here!

This might be the little nudge some folks need to get into camping.

I have gotten like three lifetime passes. And then lost each and every damn one of the cards.
