I've been telling people on here and my other board that Gunsmoke is easily the WORST gunshop in town. Why anyone would take their ccw class is beyond me. They charge $145 for a lecture only class with no range time. You can go to Green Mountain Guns (and almost any other place in the state) and take a class with both lecture and range time for $150.

I was asking them if they had any junk pistols, and the guy actually said this to me. "Not really, I might buy a gun off someone for $400, then turn around and sell it for $900." What the fuck? Have any of you guys actually been in there? I went in asking for a shoulder stock for a Remington 870. They pointed me in the right direction and I dug through their pile. They had several, USED, synthetic black forend and shoulder stock combos for sale for $89! You can get that brand new from the factory for $60! That place is ridiculous.

I recently graduated from CST and was told to go there for employment. NO way! I'd rather sell coffee with my wife than gunsmith for that place. It's not a "privilege" to shop in that store as he/they make it seem. Tell your buddies and family to go else where for their needs. Tell you enemies to go to that place to get it rough and dry!

Just listened to the interviews - thanks for those links, Dave.

Wyatt's quite the shady "businessman", IMO. He used a lot of buzzwords and painted himself as the victim by saying things like "Gunsmoke's the big dog in town..." and "CBI is just out to get me because I've criticized them before..." blah, blah, blah. He just oozes with BS. I'm going to make sure all my family and friends know about this guy and to stay away.

I missed the original interviews but caught the aftermath. I got to thinking, there has been only one time I put a CC down on a firearm before the CBI passed (I was pretty sure it would go through).

Is it technically illegal for a dealer to "sell" a firearm before the CBI is approved? She paid for it but never took possession. Sounds shady.

How funny that this story won't die. What's been said here is all true. There's evidence all over the place. Try the Jefferson County Court records, for starters. It was also covered in a Rocky Mountain News article, complete with his mug shot photo!. I photocopied the article and could probably find it and scan it if you really doubt the veracity of the story.

Or - here you go - I just Googled and there are searchable Rocky Mountain News archives online. They charge a couple of bucks for individual articles.

The whole case revolved around Richie's refusal to turn over money and guns (a Steyr Scout and a 1911) that had been awarded to his ex-wife Rebecca in their divorce. He had chance after chance to settle up and finally the judge threw him in jail for contempt. I recall the Rocky article said he was belligerent to the judge and that he was in jail for weeks.

I met Rebecca before I met him, long ago. Long before he had a shop of his own. She was just as sweet as could be, and he was an egotistical jerk - just total opposites. (You always scratch your head at that kind of couple!) Rebecca suffered a closed head injury in an accident, and I suspect her settlement money was how he transitioned from working stiff to shop owner. (Don't know, but the timing was perfect.) I was long since out of touch with her by then, but was told by a fairly reliable person that she suffered some permanent impairment. Pretty low class that he couldn't just pay a divorce settlement to a disabled lady - particularly since he had the money!

Wyatt hunted with Cooper in Africa (settlement money again?) and I could understand Cooper liking him early on but never understood how Jeff was fooled for so long. Boyles lost a lot of credibility with me for standing by him when the behavior was so egregious. That got me started listening (critically) to Boyles, losing more and more respect every time I heard his show. I suppose advertising revenue buys just as much willful blindness from Boyles as any with other media personality.

Wyatt's M. O. is to bring in noobs for his CCW class off KHOW radio ads, and make them feel that their guns are inferior. (Which may well be true, for some.) Then he sells them on an overpriced Gunsmoke custom pistol. That shop must have among the highest margins in the industry.

I strongly disagree with CCW classes that have no range time, and question the ethics of anyone who would "teach" that way. Such a class is fine for an truly experienced shooter, but we've all been around CCW holders who are completely incompetent. It's a minor inconvenience for an experienced shooter to do a bit of basic range time for a permit, but a badly needed wake-up call for the rest of the class. (It's also a great way to sell more training.)

A lot of people take his class and never get that wake-up call. They're walking around unarmed with a deadly weapon. I dated a lady who took that class and had her permit for over a year before we met. (Sure opened her eyes the first time I took her shooting!) Thankfully, she couldn't afford the custom guns he pitched so she wasn't taken on that.

    Three suggestions:

    1) Google "Rich Wyatt Gunsmoke"

    2) Check out the celebrity photo album at gunsmokeguns.com for a taste of his ego. You'll love the shot of his new wife (poor thing!)

    3) Get the Rocky article from the archive. If that doesn't satisfy you, go straight to Jeffco court.

    Default Gunsmoke

Two thaughts about this kitten raping pederast:

    1. His 1911s are built with 1960s technology. He still believes that a gun cannot be both tight and reliable bc he doesn't know what gun timing is. Seriously; this is just ignant. He stipples or checkers all of his guns to give them bling factor, then butchers a match grade barrel shoehorning it in to a sloppy gun. Then he slaps a 3k price on it and tells everyone its sloppy on purpose. Captain Douchebag.

    2. One time before I knew better, I was in there browsing and forgot my sunglasses. I got halfway home, called and got him on the phone. He said he would hold them for me and I told him I would be in the following Monday (three days hence). When I showed up, he laughed at me in front of his staff and said that they couldn't possibly be heald responsible (which would be true if he hadnt accepted responsibility). If I can't trust you with my $100 Ray-Bans, how can I trust you with my 1k, 2k or 3k gun?

This is one of those guys who has a great rep with the general public b/c the shop looks nice and he has celeb clients. Everyone who knows anything about guns ends up at Andy's or elsewhere.
