I have been thinking of getting one recently after a close call of having an accident in my truck. Someone pulled out in front of me and I was barely able to avoid it. I am considering this one after many good reviews:

I have a cheapo one from amazon. Records a new file every 3 mins, so you dont have to sit through a 1 hr video to review an event. It works ok during the day, sucks at night.

Getting ready to post and found this old thread; probably should be moved to Ask-A-Member, but didn't want to start a new thread and get scolded by the repost police.
With all the traffic accidents and idiots on bicycles (not all but way too many to count) who refuse to follow the rules of the road; I am looking into getting one. I only want to buy once so I wanted to field recommendations. This thread is kinda old, so I wanted to get some 2016 recommendations.

Disclaimer: I have no experience, etc....
Couldn't you use a GoPro to mount on the dash to use as a dashcam? Would also work underwater for trips, etc...
You could but those are pretty pricey. Someone is probably more inclined to smash a window over a $300+/- GoPro vs a cheapo amazon cam.

Also GoPros do not automatically loop and delete old files. You can pickup the older models for fairly cheap though.
It appears everyone in that video was driving way too fast and way too close for the road conditions.
