I agree, I got a very nice 22LR rifle that was setup for 100-200yd shooting about October 2012. I couldn't find any match ammo then and then bam, 12/12 happened. I haven't seen 22LR since. Well, I've seen it on armslist for $75/500 or $25/100 (both bulk grade) and it is now my most expensive caliber to shoot, so I don't. So much so, that shooting my new Rem700 is CHEAPER than shooting 22LR (because 22LR isn't replaceable right now).

I did get into reloading this time last year because I couldn't find any pistol ammo. Powder/primers are starting to come back in stock at many places and that really helps. I can reload much cheaper than factory ammo and it allows me to go shooting more often for sure. Granted, my time limits the amount I can go right now, but at least I keep building my surplus cheaper than by buying at walmart.

I have been shooting more than ever. Training for competitions and just trying to improve my long range shooting. 80 rounds of .260 last Saturday at Hoser's match (both morning & afternoon matches) at $2/per pull. Couple hundred 9mm & .556 per trip to Bob's farm. I have shot more this year already than all of last year. This is also not including gas and hotel money for out-of-state matches.

It's your priorities, everything cost money, all hobbies that are worthwhile are expensive. Golf, skiing, biking, fishing, etc all cost thousands if your serious about them. They are still way cheaper than motorcycles, snowmobiles or boats!. Guns are no fun at all sitting in a safe! Get out there and shoot. You will quickly remember if its fun and worth you money or not. Don't worry about how much it cost, or fret over how much ammo you have in reserve. My end-of-the-world reserve is 2 boxes of defensive handgun ammo, everything else I will shoot and replace. My best friend and shooting partner is doing the same thing. He is sitting on X amount of ammo and doesn't want to replace it so he wont go out. Drives me freakin' nuts.

Quit typing, get up, go out and shoot. The doctor prescribed recoil therapy for you. Don't be a collector, be a shooter...
If your post count is higher than your round count, you are a troll.

Wal-Mart has had tula in stock for 5.50 a box

I've been shooting 1-5 rounds(rifle) a day just to supplement all my dry fire practice (which is free)

I have plenty of components and .22lr laying around the biggest killer for me is range fees blu core wants 30 something an hour for their rifle range I know I can go to the forest and shoot but again gas and time finding a decent place less than 45 minutes away is tough.

and my days off rarely coincide with normal people so car pooling to the forest is not usually an option

You sir, are a specialist in the art of discovering a welcoming outcome of a particular situation....not a mechanic.

The single most considerable hurdle for me is proximity to where I shoot. I primarily shoot at CRC and it makes for a 166 mile day (83 out/83 home). If the Boulder Rifle Club didn't have a waiting list that closely resembled the half-life of plutonium, I'd probably go to the range twice a week at a minimum.

I just had an invite to go out to CRC on Friday. Probably the first opportunity to go shoot in 2 years. I thought once I retired I'd be shooting a lot more often. WRONG !!!! due to fixed income and current prices.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

I know once I retire that I will shoot more. Yes I will have a fixed income but I buy components here and there but I started stocking up 10 years ago. some things I am a little short on in my mind but I said years ago when Wideners had CCI #35 for $75 a case that they would never go down, only up. Sad I only bought 2.

In my case the run up to retirement has me doing less shooting than we used to because work takes priority and the load has doubled in the last 5 years. I do know that the sacrifice I have made will mean that in 4 years my take-home pay in retirement will be more than now by a bunch since I take home less than 50% of my gross. All about priorities. Just hope I live another 20 to enjoy it.
I see you running, tell me what your running from

Nobody's coming, what ya do that was so wrong.

Well it good to see that it is not just me. I have no other hobbies and dont drink coffee. Hopefully I can start reloading soon to ease the costs some. I do agree if you live in the ar world there is no better time with all the manafactures of ar's the competition has brought prices down.
    Don't be stupid!!!!!

I have enough to weather price hikes. What gets me is that I don't shoot as much anymore because I don't know when I will be able to get .22 next.
