Default Who is the VMWare expert?

I need to install a Clonezilla image to VM being run through VMware Workstation. I am having major issues trying to get the OS to install. Clonezilla starts up connecting to an ISO on my desktop through a new VM instance, but then it wont install the actual clonezilla image which is on a USB drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe it can't use the USB because no vmware tools have been installed yet. Can you create a bootable ISO of Clonezilla? VMware is designed for cloning, any reason you dont use VMware to clone the disk or VM? You could also create a VM disk with what you need and mount it to the VM as a separate disk.

I have the bootable clonezilla ISO that loads, it connects to my USB drive that has the image to clone but it wont install. I do it all day long on actually linux machines, just never on a vm. We are using clonezilla because it is for roughly 50 individual timeclocks a day and at the time we started cloning our company was cheap and didnt want to pay for the vmware license to allow cloning. Let me mess around with it and take some screenshots.

VMware workstation can mount a VM to to the host OS. Copy the image to a VM disk (formatted so the host can access it) and once you are booted to the ISO locate the image from the second VM disk. I worked with Acronis a bunch but never with Clonezilla. Acronis lets you browse the network for images too. You may also try VMware converter to create a VM of the original source machine, very, very easy and free. From there a linked clone would be ideal.

I'm waiting on my upgrade to finish. I was having some issues that 9.0.3 fixes but its taking forever. After that I'll try what you suggested. Thank you.

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do, I work in VMware clusters (I have one with 8 terabytes of RAM, 574 CPUs) but I do know that to boot off of USB on workstation, there's a special pre-made VM you have to boot off of first. I had to do it once and got it working on workstation, but I don't have the details with me anymore.
