If it's a work phone, assume you have no privacy.

"Jail breaking" is hacking the phone to bypass the built-in security. This allows the installation of software not blessed by Apple. If it was your phone, you could do with it whatever you want. Since it's your employer's phone, don't even think about it. It could void the warranty on the phone and could be a career limiting move if business policy forbids it.

As to the apps, I'll let someone more iPhone-centric address those. I moved on to Android after the 3GS.

If it's a work phone they can monitor everything. I am not sure if they can monitor txts, net usage WITHOUT jail breaking. I had a friend spy on her hubby who she felt was doing things behind her back. But she had to JB.

Jailbreak allows you more control of the phone. You can install non approved apple apps.

If you're concerned about your privacy update to the latest firmware. Their is no JB and I'm not aware of any snooping apps that are approved by apple.

I've used surefire shot timer. Fairly accurate, not sure of any other apps.

Get a Magpul case. If your company is on top of it, they put a tacking system in your pocket. The IT guy says they don'y really look at our info unless the need to. It'd just take too much effort. They are sorta cool, I bet it would be a phone I'd own if it wasn't jammed up with work security nonsense. Hope it's not on Sprint.

Big time. Sprint has the worst 4G coverage of all 4 major carriers in the Denver Metro. I paid to get out of my Sprint plans and moved to Verizon late last year.

Sprint sucks and the iPhone sucks. I have one from work also and I hate it, the screen is small and it's slow. Compared to my personal droid the iPhone is second class.

^^^ While we are at it let's debate ford vs Chevy, Goodyear vs Michelin, bud vs coors, and elway vs manning.

Back on subject however. I don't say anything into my work cell, text or email something I wouldn't say to my hr director boss etc etc. if it's not yours your privacy doesn't "exist".

Nice. I've been stuck with a work Blackberry for the last eight years. Maybe now that RIM is going under, we might get something a little more user friendly.

As a tech that is currently issuing these I can truthfully tell you the following:
NO - your company cannot see your texts directly, they could have software installed but that's extra money.
YES - since they are paying the bill they can actually see who you are texting with though (just look at your own usage online and you'll see all of the numbers listed)
SORT OF - they can see your web browsing habits, again they'll need software but won't cost as much. My company actually blocks certain webpages
POSSIBLE - turning on the camera and/or microphone remotely is possible however it is actually a security risk and Apple won't allow it. So your company would have to be going against Apple's setup and programming.

As Gman said, jailbreaking your phone is basically hacking it to run non-Apple approved software. It actually does void the warranty and I highly recommend against doing it since it's a company phone. If it were your personal phone I'd say to give it a shot however there is a possibility of bricking your phone (rendering it totally useless hence the brick term) and then you'd have a paper weight.

IMHO I don't install any gun apps or anything personal for that matter on my work phone. I know there are lax companies out there that don't really care but I never want to give my company a reason to put me into a disciplinary action scenario. Here is a list of what I'm currently playing around with and prices. I usually look for the free version and test that out first (if there is one) and go from there.
    Ballistic Calculators
    Ballistic, $9.99
    Mil-Do, $9.99

    Legal
    Legal Heat, $0.99
    Gun Concealed, $2.99

    Record Keeping
    Range Buddy, $0.99
