    Default Recommended smith in COS

Looking for a gunsmith in Colorado Springs who might be able to remove a live round from the chamber of my 16 inch AR barrel.

    Recommendations?

Did you try "mortaring" the rifle?
In a safe and clear area and muzzle vertical grab the fore end of the rifle. With your free hand unlatch the charging handle and try to pull it while smacking the butt down on the floor/ground.
Are you positive it is a live round?

Yeah, tried mortaring it, extractor pulled the rim off, tried tapping (gently) with a cleaning rod.....etc, etc. Yes, it's live.

Nope. BCG came out when the extractor pulled the edge off the rim.

add penetrating oil. let sit etc. keeping you body away from the muzzle Using a solid rod tap/hit harder, A cleaning rod will be damaged and the threaded end expand and jam around the bullet.. Hatcher's notebook has a story about a round going off and the primer killing a woman. So keep clear of both ends. Eyes and ears.

Honestly, I'm really kind of surprised at how firmly the round is lodged in there. I think I'm going to get a brass rod or something similar. And yes, the cleaning rod did mushroom a bit on the end. I would think that if one approached the tapping gently, there should be a low chance of the round actually going off. There's powder between the bullet and the primer so, even if the bullet got pushed down into the case, its shouldn't strike the primer.

I think the oil will kill the primer. I've forgotten now, but I think I recall reading a magazine article about killing primers with oil. I'd probably prime an empty case and squirt some penetrating oil into. Wait a day or two then see if the primer will fire. If not, you're probably pretty safe if you've pushed the bullet back into the case and doused it.
