Given the clientele from some of the surrounding areas, I imagine they have had more than a few issues with out-of-control PGO weapons. I suspect a TC Contender in .30-06 would be viewed differently.

This. I worked as a RSO there for a few years. They do a great job out there IMHO. You have to realize that not everyone that shoots there are 'gun people', and the goal is to provide a safe range for everyone. Once they get to know you and become comfortable with your skill level they will probably loosen up. There are reasons for all the rules they have, and a lot of thought and experience has gone into the way they operate. I spent a lot of weekends there in an orange vest, and trust me, I could tell you some stories....

A little off topic but I once overheard the rso tell someone they couldn't shoot a pistol because it didn't have a trigger guard. I didn't see the pistol in question.

I would say the RSO was perfectly correct in making that call. If someone dropped that pistol and the trigger hit the ground. It would send a round flying somewhere.

I work at the range as an RSO/ Instructor. I do not make or change any range rules. What I always tell folks who have an issue with a posted rule, (and somehow think im in a position to change the rule in question), is simply if they dont like the rule fine but they still have to follow it. If they would like clarification or reasoning I try to enlighten them with the common sense approach. If that doesnt work I will point them in the direction of management. By law a pistol is a pistol is a pistol. So if we allow a paying customer to shoot his pistol at the 50 yard/100 yard targets then we will spend a decent part of our day sorting out what is and isnt allowed on the rifle side. Management has the ability to allow or dissallow patrons from doing certain things within reason.
Mostly its a safety and liability issue. If the range permits wildly innaccurrate shooting due to negligence, lack of experience and training on the part of the shooter or, a firearm that is simply extremely difficult to aim and hold steady on target, no sights on a rifle (my personal favorite), than its going to be tough to say with a straight face in a court of law we were being as safe as possible. Nothing I say here can be representeded or misinterpreted as anything but my personal opinion.

Shot my SBR no problems as well at CC. One of the RSO told me once is that people dont know how to control their firearms. Seemed reasonable to me. However I did bring the AR pistol to blucore all the time with no problem. (Before I had tax stamp)

I shot my 10.5" pistol with a CAA "cheek rest" there today with no issues on the rifle range. I have seen a guy turned away in the past however... I cant remember exactly what configuration the guy had but it was an AK pistol.
