They do realize this is permanent and not a test right? What's their exit strategy if it turns out to be a bad "test"? Do they seriously think they can just take back a few bucks an hour from those workers who have grown accustomed to a certain income during the "test" without some kind of uproar or outright riot?

Colorado does it.. the minimum wage here is tied to some cost of living index.. A couple years ago during the crash the minimum wage in Colorado decreased. You also have to remember that very few people are actually paid minimum wage. Most states also have a separate pay rate for those that are classified as tip earners and they are allowed to be paid below minimum wage for this reason.

As for Seattle.. sure decrease minimum wage, business owners fire the couple people that got hired at that level and rehire anew.

And that is where the rubber meets the road. Over pay the employee and either raise costs/cut corners elsewhere. Let all the qualified people walk and go work an underwhelming job that pays the same. So we'll have big gap of no employees for entry level corporate jobs. That means the next tier up will get those responsibilities put onto them causing more stress and them wanting more money.

Last time I've been to Seattle, i had to carry my items with my hand. I didn't want to pay 10cent per bag fee (more like bag tax). I can barely afford a $6.50 wendy's salad, how am I gonna pay for a same item in Seattle?
