Both are outstanding, the only way to tell which is right for you is to test em out. Most local ranges carry these models, and are available to rent.....![]()

I've shot the G-21, but not the XD.
I don't care too much for either, but if I were to choose, it would be the XD.
now, as already mentioned above, get your hands on them and try 'em out before you buy if you can...at least put your hands on them and see how they feel.. neither feel the same and from a polymer pistol point of view, the HK (USP), to me, feels way better than both of those.
you could, in keeping with the finest tradition of the AR15 community, "get both"![]()
The XD is purdyer to look at if that's important

What ranges can you rent at? I assume you're talking about Denver. My brother is trying to decide this same question and I'd like to find a range that rents guns.
BTW, I would go with the XD, I love being able to quickly verify if it's loaded and mine (XD-9) was cheaper than the Glock.
Firing line have them.
Every one is loaded.. always.
Both are good guns, the Ergonomics of the grip angle are closer to that of a 1911 on the XD. The addition of the grip safety, loaded chamber indicator, a few more barrel sizes and finally a wider aftermarket supply has made the XD a viable choice.
The Glock... well it's a Glock, boringly reliable, great aftermarket options (parts, holsters, mags, sights, ect..) and plenty of community support for the series. Great gun and you really can't go wrong with them.,
Mind you I've shot a G21 enough to know it's dead nuts reliable and accurate, and actually own a XD45C. I went with the XD because the grip diameter felt better and the angle mattered to me. That was before the G21SF came out and not I'm seriously considering changing to that version. I just don't feel the need to rush out into that purchase becaues the XD is as reliable and accurate as I could hope for.
All of that is just my not so humble opinion and YMMV
Oh, I know, "A gun is always loaded". I had that drilled in to me and it's good advice to a point, but if people actually took that literally: It would be stupid to change your target at a shooting range or look down a barrel to check for pitting. I wouldn't leave a "loaded" gun in my room either (or anywhere but on me for that matter, it takes almost no time to chamber a round). I would never point a gun at someone, even with the chamber open, but it is helpful to see or feel quickly if the gun is truly ready to go.![]()

I've owned both, and I'd go with the Glock. The Break on the XD trigger is a bit too smooth for my taste (I like a more pronounced SNAP in my triggers) and reset is much longer than that of the Glock. I'm a fan of trigger staging so the very short reset and quick break in the Glock trigger wins. The XD does have the lifetime warranty, but if you have ever dealt with SA's warranty dept. you'd know you're in for quite a wait for a simple repair (not taking any credit from them they will work with you on pretty much any problem you may have), the Glock on the other hand comes with a one year and if you do manage to break something you can find parts pretty much anywhere and have it running in no time whereas factory parts for the XD are almost impossible to get.
