I've always wondered the same thing that Sixgun has asked. If what we have here in the United States is so much better than what these individuals have/had in Mexico, then why come here and refuse to adapt to the language, customs, environments of this nation? I don't understand the mentality of coming here just to convert area after area into the same thing that they left.

Yes, there are areas (predominantly along the East Coast) like your "Little Italy's" and "Chinatown's" that speak predominantly Italian, or Portugese, or Chinese, etc. These are small communities in specific area, not spread out all across the country like an infestation. Most all of the immigrants who came to the United States in the early 1900's or earlier learned to speak English and never spoke their native tongues outside of their homes. These people wanted to adapt to their new host nation. They also (almost all) also legally migrated to this country. As a whole, these individuals wanted to not take from this country, but give something back as a way of saying 'thank you" for the privledge of being here. These philosophies are not being brought here from the bulk of those coming to the U.S. from Mexico. I'm tired of the attitude of "If you don't like it tough! What are you going to do about it? Nothing; I'm here and you can't so a thing about it."

    Once again, my $.02!

No. He's a high placed engineer at a division of Caterpillar in SoCal that only speaks Spanish.

Explain...what? I guess they wanted a place to buy mexican food and wal-mart wants to provide.

So your dad is part of the problem then.

Wal-mart denied them. They told them to learn english...even though they are catered too still with spanish speaking employees...

You aren't going to win any brownie points here. It is plain and simple, if they want to be here they need to learn english and the rest of us do not need to be inconvenienced with questions asking press 1 or 2 or having to drive through parts of the city and not understand the billboards or have special people hired at our places of work to cater to those who do not learn our language when they are in OUR FUCKING COUNTRY!!!!

That is way more offensive to me than someone talking in a different language.

Those guys should really ask a mexican how the era of hope and change will end, their country is a lot further along that road than we are now, though with Obama at the head we seem to be taking leaps and bounds to catch up.

Edit: I agree with you completely on the government docs thing being in English. But I also don't think its a problem if a private business wants to offer a courtesy to people who may not be familiar enough with written English to be comfortable getting bills, contracts, etc in it. Of course, if its forced (like it is with French in Canada) then its crap.

WTF are you talking about....American was built from England....did you not study the fucking history of the united states...do you keep up on mexicos history or what...
England came over and made the colonies...they spoke English. then the revolutionary war happened...we declared ourselves a separate and independent nation. They spoke ENGLISH!!!! comprende?

we did wrong taking the land from the American Indians...which I am a descendant of as well as English so I have every fucking right to sit up here on my fucking soap box and tell you how wrong you are. I am FROM HERE and I say SPEAK ENGLISH because that is what people FROM HERE do.

back to the cell phone issue, claim it's broken and leave it at home for a few days while you work with the cell provider to get it replaced... if it's not documented somewhere that you're required to have a cell phone...

Worked for me when a company wasn't paying the going rate for mileage on personal car usage, left the car at home, rode the bus. sorry man, car is broken, got some wheels I can borrow? Ended up driving the owner of the company sports car around for a while... nice ride. then they finally got their act together and started paying more per mile. And turns out, they started providing a company/owner vehicle more often because of that.

Its because they stick to their roots and we took most of this land from them in the Mexican American war around 1848. They are still spread about here due to that...why they keep coming over I have no idea other than our money is worth way more than theirs, some come over seasonally, work for the summer etc..then go back and live off it and support their family the rest of the year.

why is there cinco de mayo....shouldn't happen here. why does the mexican flag get waved around on that day...why does it at time get hung above the american flag at schools (predominantly down south like socal) (yes just like the email we have all seen)
Why did the mexican flag get hung above the american flag in nevada and then a US veteran take it down and take it. (sure you have seen that one too)

they have no respect for us. they come here fuck us for the money, don't pay the taxes and send the money back.
Now I have to pay for uninsured motor vehicle insurance...guess the fuck why....you guessed it! the fucking illegals who don't carry insurance and the insurance companies were tired of paying for it, so they charge it to those who actually pay....WTF!!!!!

this shit needs to get fixed. I don't know what the fuck the politicians are doing but this is something the libfucks and repuds need to work on.

No? What historical studies have you read that identify anything else? I have studied this nations history extensively. While it's true that most of the original colonies spoke Spanish (Spain's version) and French, this changed very early on in the colonies.

All of this nations Founding Fathers spoke and wrote in English (albeit in the dialect of it's time).

All of this nations founding documents are in English. Case in Point:
    The Mayflower Compact
    The Declaration of Independence
The Constitution of the United States
    The Constitution of Confederate States
    The Federalist Papers
    The Articles of Confederation
    The Northwest Ordinance
    The Missouri Compromise
    The Monroe Doctorine
    The Gettysburg Address
    The Emancipation Proclamation
(I can provide dozens more if you're interested)

Help me to understand how "America was NOT build on English".

Thanks for the polite response as well.
I have a deep feeling on this subject as I feel our Country is being taken away from us right under our noses. Between Obama and the liberals who find it necessary to give my rights, money, and freedom to those who do not know or respect this Country and what so many people have done to secure our Freedoms. Funny I used the word "secure" because that is not how I feel right now.

I have no problem with anyone coming to this Country who wants a better life. Not sure with the current administration that is possible.... But do so as those legally. I have a friend who is Korean and wanted to come to school here. The amount of work he had to go through just to get an education visa was a pain in the ass. Even more so when after being here 6 years he wanted to become a citizen. He did so with a lot of time, work, learning the language, history and the things that a lot of US citizens take for granted on a daily basis.

I didn't want this ti turn into a big fight or discussion on the right to speak a certain language, but that of being able to speak. In my case in which started this tread was that I felt like my company is telling me what i can and can not say on a device that I own.

I know this is a very touchy and deeply rooted subject but I think we should try and keep it civil and constructive .

Not trying to take away anyone's right to tell me to fuck off

To get an idea on some of the topic I'm talking about... take a look at this EPIC bull shit. Just phucking amazing.

I agree, my great grandparents were 100% Italian as well, and they came over here, legally, got shitty TAX PAYING jobs, building our nation's infrastructure, even went so far as to change their last name from Notariani, to Notter, in an effort to be AMERICANS.

My Grandmother has told me stories about her mother slapping the taste out of her mouth for speaking Italian in public, as it was considered Un-American, to speak anything but English outside the home.

They came here for a better life, a chance at freedom, and to escape the Black Hand, which we now know today as the Mafia. They wouldn't have traded America for Italy or Sicily for ANYTHING.

Don't misconstrue what I'm saying, I'm not anti immigrant, I'm anti ILLEGAL immigrant. If you go through the process of coming here under a visa, and go through the naturalization process (which BTW, is hell more stringent that what they teach in schools. I know some philipinos that know more about American history that most people), then you have my 110% support. You will be my friend. However, you jump my border illegally, I beleive we have every right to shoot on sight.
