    Default home powder coating?

Anybody here do their own powder coating at home? I'm wanting to find out if an old kitchen range oven works OK for this. I have a freebie to pick up, but I'm being told on another forum that I NEED a "convection" oven that stirs the air around. I think he's fulla hot air, but I'm looking for other opinions and experiences.

I just talked to my brother who powder coats professionally, He said that you can use a regular oven, NO convection needed

But don't use the oven in your kitchen, your wife will never forgive you.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to get. And a buddy just bought a new range, I get the old one for free. I even have 220 in the garage.

I don't powder coat but have done all the research as I'm seriously considering it and as said no convection needed. Standard oven works even a pregnant oven can be made to fit larger parts (oven fitted with an extension). There are plenty of people out there powdercoating there has to be a good forum out there.

I'd love to have a powder-coating setup, but I'm not really in the position to do it.

I've got 2 old toolboxes from my Father In Law that I'd love to resurface with a powder-coating and then give to my son. If anyone in the Springs has or gets set up to do this stuff, and would be willing to powdercoat these boxes for a reasonable fee, please let me know.

Good friend powder coats all the time in his garage we have a small oven and am working on a big one. He has a 1911 slide he powder coated with about 1.3k rounds through it holding up great I am going to do a turbo housing later this week. All with the cheapo harbor freight kit. It does take practice though to get your coating even

My brother works at a powder coating shop in Florence. He goes to Springs every week. We might be able to get those done for you.

Your oven just has to reach 400-450 degrees for 20 minutes. IMPORTANT!! Make sure you are in a ventilated shop. The first time I coated had the shop door closed because it was cold. I did you 2 sets of baking without leaving. Woke up the next day with terrible chest pains and shortness of breath. It doesn't have a pungent smell when it's cooking but let's off some gnarly fumes. You will need an air compressor that maintains 30psi otherwise the powder won't feed properly. I have large cardboard box with a half inch extension going through the top to try to contain the powder from going everywhere.
