More guns not the answer
The Gazette’s our view recently defended vigorously the notion that University of Colorado students (and presumably all college students everywhere) should be allowed to carry concealed guns after receiving firearms training. This would end the campus massacres by deranged individuals, The Gazette seems to argue.
But now comes news of a deranged soldier brutally shooting ffve of his fellow soldiers at Camp Liberty in Iraq. This camp’s soldiers all carry loaded weapons and are fully trained in their use. So much for The Gazette’s guns-for-all position.
Compare the numbers of yearly gun deaths in the U.S. to the same number in nations with gun controls such as England, Japan, Canada, etc. Your jaw will drop.

Trained infantry solder against other soldiers. What? five deaths and subject captured!
In other shootings many more victims shot and killed by half trained nut job attacking unarmed victims.
I'll take the choice of having a firearm as a defence against psychopaths any day.

Then I ll argue... without those other soldiers with guns, the number of death could have been MANY MORE HIGHER. Good thing someone was able to stop him.
