    Default Persian rug appraisal

Poll added as I'm bored right now.
    Winner gets nothing.

Bought a 3 x 5 Persian rug back in '04 when passing through Incirlik on my way to Uzbekistan. It has sat in a tube for 10 years and I guess I'm curious as to what I can get for it.
I just called the local rug shop and they want $60 for an appraisal. Seems a bit high for me. Of course if it's worth a grand or more than ehhh, but if only a couple hundred bucks (I don't think so), then I probably won't sell it and $60 down the drain. They also advised if it is something that they would want they would buy it off of me. To add, now that i'm not on the phone, when I bought they advised that that it was a silk/wool blend with a silk backing which makes the color pop a lot more. When we were walking off the base, a Lt Colonel was heading out to do some buying. He was on a one year remote and had done a ton of research so we followed him around. Sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He was buying rugs and selling them for 3 times the amount back home. This rug was probably 25% more than most other 3x5 rugs due to the amount of silk and the Col. gave a strong thumbs up approval. (He was buying the bigger 8x10 so he wasn't interested).

Anybody know of a place maybe in Denver they trust for things like this? Or anybody have experience with the guys in chapel hills mall before I go there.

I really don't want to walk in to get it appraised and get had. Not sure if selling it on ebay is wise. So if anybody has any experience I would appreciate the advice. There is a huge range that I'm finding on the internet.

Here are some pics (sorry, originally posted it from the phone):

How is the ends & side finished. A machine looking stitching, or something done by hand? That will make a difference. For $60 i'd get it done. This ain't antique roadshow

I'm pretty sure kids from Iran did this by hand.

The carpet should have uneven stitching, not a uniform one, hand sewn does pay better than machine sewn, depending on market.

Market is abit soft in anything collectible/auctions. Nevertheless, contact auction houses. They give you free appraisal on the spot on estimated value and reserve price. Good luck!

There was the persian rug place on Broadway that was advertising that it was going out of business, but I think they might have actually closed by now.
