Default Kenmore freezer not cold but fridge works fine.

Only going off what the wife has told me as I'm not home to look at it yet. Freezer food has been moved to our other freezer and ice dumped.

kenmore side by side freezer/fridge, she says the fridge side works fine, but freezer side is not cold and things were unthawing.

any tips on what I should be looking at or where to start?

In most refrigerators only the freezer gets cold, then the cold is transferred to the refrigerator side. If the freezer is not working then the whole thing isn't working, it's just getting cold enough to keep the refrigerator side cold. First thing I would look at is the coils and fan, make sure everything is clean.

    1. Clean the coils on the back and/or under the fridge.
    2. Check the heating coil for the defroster, should be less than 10 ohms....
    3. Check or replace the temp sensor/switch (thermistor).
    4. If none of those things work, go for replacing the control board.

This is in order of expense to you. Likelihood of failure may place the board above the switch... You can proceed in the order you are comfortable with.
