Incorrect assumption. The angels (of which Lucifer was the highest until his rebellion, and all other demons were angels as well -- still retaining their angelic nature post-Fall) have intellect. As such, having intellect, they had and have free will.

Aquinas explains:

I answer that, Some things there are which act, not from any previous judgment, but, as it were, moved and made to act by others; just as the arrow is directed to the target by the archer. Others act from some kind of judgment; but not from free-will, such as irrational animals; for the sheep flies from the wolf by a kind of judgment whereby it esteems it to be hurtful to itself: such a judgment is not a free one, but implanted by nature. Only an agent endowed with an intellect can act with a judgment which is free, in so far as it apprehends the common note of goodness; from which it can judge this or the other thing to be good. Consequently, wherever there is intellect, there is free-will. It is therefore manifest that just as there is intellect, so is there free-will in the angels, and in a higher degree of perfection than in man.

Additionally, even if the picture's caption were true, it supposes an act of the will insofar as a viewed good (freedom), so the idea of angels != free will is negated by the act of the will in rebellion, which is ultimately an intellectually based act.

That made me think, in a book series I read (the "Empire of Man" series by David Weber and John Ringo), one of the side characters is a High Priestess of Satan. She gets asked about it by the protagonist at one point, and claims that their belief system is something like God is being held hostage by the angels/archangels, and that Satan and his kind were trying to free him.

OK, I bite...

According to the Bible, they were cast to Hell for having questioned God's authority, so in essence yes.

But then again, if I may quote Milton's Paradise Lost :
"Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven."

According to the bible there are but 2 masters. How do you reign in hell if your master is Satan? Those are Lucifer's words. Not a serious question. I know what I believe and am persuaded.
