Looking for a Steamboat Springs shooting area
I am looking for an area near Steamboat, just looking to shoot some pistol.
Anyone know an area near to town (other than the private range) to take the kids out?
You could check out the Hot Sulfur Springs DOW range.

yes, I knew of that one but it is an hour out of town, thinking the locals must have some forest areas they prefer...
My buddy just moved to Hayden and said they have a 300 yard range there. Its free. That's all I know.

Looking for a place to plink, mainly 22s, maybe some handgun/AR CF too. I see the local State place Hayden(?) is closed until July 4th? Going to ave some time up there just before the 4th and might have a nephew with us, thought he might enjoy it.
Is the Routt County Club open to the public? Maybe have reciprocity with CRC or Aurora?
Any place semi-official to shoot?

I hear the Adams Park area is nice.
Since I just got back I'll put here for the record that Routt County Firing Range is pretty good. A couple of 100 yard berms, and then two smaller berms for plinking. Fairly clean, but I think they just worked on it. Some shade on firing lines. Can't drive to targets on the 100 yard berms. On the middle 100 yard berm, there are further small backstops at 200, 300, 400(?) going up the backstop hill. The longest ranges are fairly uphill.
The issue I would have with the 100+ berms are that they are not 'blocked' by the end or side berms for the other berms, so unless you can get the whole range to go cold, you'll be in line of sight, though not directly downrange, of the other berms. Not a risk I'm looking to take- but when were were there during the week, there was a 50:50 chance that we had the whole place to our selves.
Range faces east. The shade for the firing line will not cover in the afternoon.
Just south of the airport and the power plant. Range is on a car accessible dirt road. ROute 37 which comes off of Route 40.

Nice facility. Target stands to place targets on, but like I said, they may be fairly new and were already in shot shape.
No water or restroom/potties.
30 minutes from Steamboat.
