What a huge load of horse shit!
I will agree that this country has a problem with violence, but it isn't a growing problem (recently released FBI data show violent crime is down 15.4% from 2007 to 2011... http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr.../violent-crime ) and I will absolutely not accept that the violence is due to guns, it is ALWAYS the individual who chooses to perform a violent act that is responsible - regardless of the tool used. Perhaps we need to look at the causes of this violence and less on the tools used. What os driving people to loose their minds?
This man is an Army Ranger. I'm sure he earned that distinction, and that is highly respectable, but somewhere along the line he bought all of the BS in thinking he's now some sort of super hero, and a genius one at that. I've seen plenty like him during my service & in my contractor duties since. Thankfully, I've seen considerably more who are intelligent, capable, honorable and well-grounded. He seems to perceive himself as invincible as he's offering to make "dates" for anyone who wants to tangle with him but he's forgotten that no matter how good you are, there is always someone better. Sadly, his ego is so swelled that he can't conceive of his own limitations.
Too, for all of his certain education, this man is an idiot. What's worse is that he thinks we are too.
In a world with no guns it is unlikely anyone will be killed or assaulted by someone with a gun. He compares the gun deaths in the US in 2011 to the gun deaths in the UK in 2010. Yeah, the UK's rates are considerably lower; duh! I defer back to this paragraphs opening sentence: In a world with no guns it is unlikely anyone will be killed or assaulted by someone with a gun. Now, let's look at truly comparable data. Lets look at the "Per 100,000" statistics for ALL violent crime (such as rape, assault, murder, etc.) with ANY weapon and no weapons at all. I'm too lazy and not inclined to post the averages in the US & UK since 2005 - do your own homework & you'll see that ALL violent crime is HIGHER in the UK (predominantly England & Wales) than in the US. Oh, but we wouldn't want actual facts and fair comparisons to cloud his talking points - it might interfere with his agenda.
While he attempts to make a good argument about what our Founding Fathers meant by "militias", he again misses the mark. His use of Civil War era GOVERNMENT organized militias and the 1903 Militia Act are like comparing a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang to a 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. While they're both "Mustangs" in name, they bear no real life comparison.
Again, he's so off base with much of what he says, but his rank has gone to his head when he thinks we all need to bow down to his wisdom and enlightened guidance. I could pick apart practically every one of his talking points with facts and logic but I'd be preaching to the choir here and I haven't the time nor inclination to do so. His anti-gin rants show that he's not only drank the Kool-Aid but he's been snorting down the damned Kool-Aid powder mix as well.
