KUSA - According to Douglas County officials, wildfires in New Mexico are making it smoky and hazy in parts of southern Colorado, causing alarm with many residents.
Douglas County Regional Dispatch Center experienced a high volume of calls related to the smoke from the New Mexico fire. Many residents could smell smoke and see some haze throughout the area.
Douglas County says there are no actual fires, plumes of smoke or flames in their area.
9NEWS called South Metro Fire who confirmed they worked on a small brush fire Monday morning that others may have witnessed in the distance nearly E-470 and Parker Road, but that fire is now under control.
The Asaayi Lake Fire is the largest wildfire in New Mexico currently, burning more than 400 acres in the Chuska Mountains near the Navajo Nation. That mountain range spans into southern Colorado, but the wildfire itself is close to the New Mexican city of Gallup.
9NEWS Meteorologist Becky Ditchfield says fire danger will continue to be a concern on Monday, especially in western Colorado. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Colorado Springs and from Vail to the Western Slope and down into the Four Corners area. Gusts in these areas will get up to 40 mph with humidity at less than 13 percent. A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect for western Colorado as well.

Yup, it was bad this morning in Castle Rock. Reminded me of last summer.
