Angry Interesting info on ammo prices

The president of the gun club I belong to attended the NRA convention in Phoenix. He approached all the ammo manufacturers that had booths. He says he was told that they have only raised their prices approximately $1.00 per box. Since ammo prices have doubled recently it's either the distributors or retailers that are gouging us.

I would imagine it's the retailers. The last time I stopped in Sportsman's they had a sale of .40 for 39.99 a box when the same box was 19.97 at Wally World

I'd hope everyone allready knew this! High priced ammo...FU to the seller and move on. He will lower if people would stop freaking out and buying because of some fear of never getting it at this price again or at all down the road. This problem we are all in is because of us (meaning all the shooters out there). Not Obama.

    I still blame obama...
Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of hardware.

It's not gouging, it's scarcity in the face of demand. If the spot price of ammo moves, so does the commercial price. You don't expect a gold dealer to sell you gold for 'what they bought it for, plus a small markup' - it sells for what the spot price is, whether the dealer makes or loses money on any one transaction.

I've got a good supply of ammo in, which I cannot replace for anywhere near what I bought it for, whether I shoot it myself or sell it. If I sell some of it, I won't sell it for less than what it will take me to replace it, otherwise I'd have no ammo and not enough money to get more.

If I can't replace what I have, then I don't have any ammo to sell...

Maybe the manufacturers are only charging "a buck more a box", but they're also on months-long (more like a year-plus-long) backorders, and required by contract to fulfill orders with the largest retail chains first, and at the contracted price... either dealers and distributors have to go buy it from the retail chains and pay markup over retail, or they do without.

If ammo manufacturers truly haven't raised prices, then when demand goes down and the supply chain refills, ammo will fall to not much more than before Obama. To expect anyone to continue selling at 2007 prices, when we don't have 2007 availability levels and demand is just self-delusional consumer backlash.

No one owes you ammo - at any price. Let alone what you think is "reasonable." The ammo belongs to them, and if they want to sell it at 10 bucks a round, that is perfectly within their rights. If someone is willing to buy it, well - why are you complaining?

The prices they are selling it for are the prices that it will move at. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

    Its simple supply & demand.
