The dozen or so schoolteachers, and one district’s bookkeeper, ready their trigger fingers.
“Gun!”
The teachers move left, an evasive sidestep — “stepping off the X,” it’s called. They yank the Glock 19s from their holsters and fire at metal targets 50 inches tall with painted faces at the tops, careful not to hit the innocents in front and behind.
Drop to a knee, fire. Stand up, fire. Scan for additional threats.
In the heartland of a nation worn raw by school shootings, these teachers are now students, learning how to kill an armed intruder.
Most of their bullets find the intended pings; a few kick up red dirt of a berm. It’s a process.
In the year and a half since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, as America has struggled to find the answer to its epidemic of school shootings, some districts have decided that teachers are the ultimate first responders and need to learn to shoot back.
Four Missouri school districts recently sent staffers to this hilltop range for five days of firearms training. The instructors, all current law enforcement officers, refer to the teachers’ “unique situation” — essentially close-quarters combat while youngsters scream and run about.

It's Missouri, but yes more is needed. It costs $17,500 for each district to send people to this 40 hour training (according to another article about this).

Just better information for teachers and staff at schools would be a huge benefit. The information is still outdated, students and individual teachers are smarter than the districts and making decisions that are not in line with what the district tells them. Most schools have not adopted the Run-Hide-Fight method and would still rather lockdown. Everyone wants changes after Sandy Hook, how one that is as easy and changing a three page policy, Run-Hide-Fight, "but we have to keep kids in the school for accountability reason" BULLSHIT, I would rather have them alive and have to find them, then dead and know right where they are. Yes, I know it will not work in most cases, but it is still far better than just lock the door and be quiet. If you can safely self evacuate - GTFO!

Smaller school districts are getting the hint, are more agile (less bureaucracy), and are able to make changes quicker.

I think you'll agree that in addition to active defensive tactics, they probably ought to teach advanced first aid /combat casualty care...that might save bunches of lives as well.

Yes, 100%. It is documented and proven that the skill sets work, are easy to perform, and minimal cost in equipment is needed. This program above does look like they include some medicine.

Absolutely agree with this and that the lock down (aka "fish in a barrel") is not the answer...

Sadly, that premise is not working for them and a lot of other people.

If I had children, I would do everything possible to make sure they were protected. Putting them in a barrel would not be an option.
