Default I knew fast food was Bad

One of the many reason's I don't eat fast food.
In the video below he illustrates how McDonald’s insists on using Russet Burbank Potatoes, a potato in America that is unusually long and difficult to grow. They further insist that their potatoes have no blemishes at all, which is hard because these potatoes commonly suffer from what is referred to as Net Necrosis, which causes unwanted spots and lines on the potatoes. If they have this, McDonald’s won’t buy them and the only way to eliminate this is through the use of a pesticide called methamidophos (Monitor) “that is so toxic that the farmers who grow these potatoes in Idaho won’t venture outside and into their fields for five days after they spray.” When McDonald’s is ready to harvest their potatoes, they have to put them in giant atmospheric controlled sheds the size of football stadiums because they are not edible for six weeks. “They have to off gas all the chemicals in them.”

It's 20 minutes long cause the Dude is an explanation-all kinda dude.

Cancer rates continue to rise, and study after study continues to surface every year showing how pesticides, GMOs and a number of other things we choose to surround ourselves with on a daily basis are indeed harmful to human health. It’s time for us to wake up and fully acknowledge it, it’s time to make better choices in our lives, it’s time to put two and two together and make connections. Fast foods chains are no different from drugs. They are extremely addicting and extremely harmful. They should not exist and this video just adds to the long, continually growing list of why.

If you're concerned about "poisons" entering your body, then maybe playing with a device that produces handheld explosions isn't in your best interest.

I'm certainly not going to argue that the food is good for you. But saying that a legal business that's been around for over 60 years "should not exist" or "should be banned" is a surefire way to guarantee I'll immediately lose interest in whatever you have to say. We're all grown ups and I don't need to be told by self-appointed nannies that I shouldn't do/eat/drink/smoke certain things. Reminds me of Bloomberg and banning sodas and salt. Leave me alone and let me make my own decisions.

Furthermore, fast food is "different from drugs". I don't think a McCheeseburger is going to cause a chemical dependency and it certainly has a very small risk of death with just one use like some drugs. That's a ridiculous thing to say for someone who's allegedly well educated. Just proves education doesn't equal intelligence.

Clicking on the link reveals this little tidbit of information about the video creator:
Michael Pollan is an author, activist, journalist and professor of journalism at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
That pretty much tells me all I need to know.

Can't remember the last time I ate in a Micky Ds.

Not disputing anything in the article. Getting ready to "try" and watch the vid. I'd be more concerned with what happens to the potatoes after they start processing them.

We must be saved from ourselves.

I usually kill what we eat and grow alot of our veggies.
Pretty much all food is/has been genetically enhanced and has either lost it's nutritional value or carries shit you don't want.
    Monsanto

We buy organic grass fed beef and pigs when we don't score enough wild stuff.

My daughter just got through cancer surgery so some of this makes ya think.

One of the many reasons why I don't eat fast foods and only eat organic! No I'm not a Prius driving liberal but I do care about what I eat and drink.

But each to their own and if you want to eat a McShite meal feel free.

My Mother in law died at 71, spent the last 5 years of her life in hospice, the only thing the woman ever ate was McD's and Golden Corral.
My FIL died just 1 year later.
Had a good friend that died at 54, ate nothing but fast food, Colon Cancer.

Grandmaw and grandpaw lived to rie old ages eating what they raised, bacon, Bacon, BACON.. grandmaw made it to late 90's, gramps late 80's cause he said wemen's live longer cause they sit down to pee.

I just don't get people who buy everything in organic. Some of those use different agricultural chemicals. Just different standard. Most of seeds are already modified.
If it was pure natural, corn will be 1/3 of size and have 75% fully grown.

I've seen some studies/journals on animal science. I was extremely surprised what they do to make it bigger.

Game meat and import seeds from those poor agricultural countries and self grow it. That would be probably near ideal.

I don't eat corn really. No nutritional value there.
    Corn is for cars. LOL

    Just had a flash:
If the gov can get people to move to the city(my other topic), make them live in 800Sq' apartments, make em eat only fast food, and fly chemtrails overhead then we can start controlling the libs.

    -and therein likes the rub.

Adherents to organic food are an odd bunch to be sure, they tend not to want synthetic pesticides, industrial solvents, chemical fertilizers, or chemical food additives in the produce they buy. While they are strange in that regard, it's not polite to point & laugh at them.
