Psychotropic drugs are a lot of "what's changed".

We also don't keep the seriously mentally ill off the streets these days.

That. It's always someone else's fault.

My wife is a university professor and fails a handful of students every single semester. An F on the transcript likely doesn't please their tuition-paying parents. Nearly every one of those students balks, after the grade, claiming their reasons for not measuring up are special, unlike the others that failed the class - they came up short but there's a good reason, unlike the others. They generally don't take kindly to being told that their excuse isn't any more valid than the next persons. They failed, they aren't special.

The 'everyone gets a trophy' society we have coddled is going to prove rather interesting as time goes on, I almost wish I still watched TV news. Almost.

This is my exact thought. I'm glad that we got this guy off the streets but we need to actually look at the source of this and prevent people from even thinking it.

Pretty much, just got out of college myself. I saw a lot of this from kids there. Yeah I failed a class before, but it's because I didn't put forth the effort to succeed. People need to take responsibility for their actions.

Also, 400 rounds? I easily shoot half that every time I go to the range.

I don't make the rules. I just think them up and write them down.

There are a few cases where MDs have opined that drug interactions due to a prescribed medicine and one introduced through food and water had cumulative and severe effects. Also, 20 to 30 years ago, the kid who was a bit "off" got dealt with old school and modified his behavior or ended up in jail. The social climate as well as chemical influence are both factors.
THIS! If there is someone so off you can't trust them with a letter opener, then why on earth is that person allowed to roam free willy nilly to do what they please if they're that unsafe? I blame the ACLU partially for that one.

    Unfortunately this is so true!

Just how did the parents have no clue? Wake the fuck up and start being parents. That's the damn problem. Keep your eyes and ears on your kids. Pay attention to what they are doing. Have an interest in your kids activities and what they are doing and how they are acting. So many douche bag parents just pass the buck saying the had no idea bla bla bla. Fact is they have no idea who their kids are or what they are doing. Too damn busy with their jobs or social scedual to have time for the kids. This is the result.
I've been saying this for years... Hey kid, where are your parents? When I was growing up, despite my parents being divorced, they both played an active role in my life and were constantly interested in what I was into, what I was doing, and who I was hanging out with. Some parents I've seen these days have kids that play sports, and some of these parents can say what sport they play, but damned if they know what position or if they're any good.

Its is a combination of a lack of parenting, lack of responsibility, and a lack of mental health care. I am not saying it was right but years ago when someone was not "right" they were either institutionalized or kept at home under the close watch of family. Pretty much all the institutions have closed and no one want to be responsible and take care of their own.

I have had a .16 ga and a .22 hanging on my wall at 12 years old. Between twelve and now, 50 years later I have NEVER had the complulsion to go out and do retarted shit with them.... The jails and the prisons are the new mental hospitals, ask any sheriff or warden. Emperically, all these shrinks spew out all these psych meds because it pays for their "free" trips to Vegas and points beyond.....You lnow, for conferences and stuff.....

The mom even said that she would be going to bed and see him sitting up at his computer, and she didn't know what he was doing.

Sorry, I am more involved in my children's online life. You need to be because they have access to so much more information that they are not neccesarily ready for mentally.

This is pretty much how I feel about it.

Nowadays we give the seriously mentally ill a bunch of pills, and leave it up to the seriously ill person to make sure he/she takes them.
