Strange brass

Just got back from the range, ran a couple hundred rounds of my reloads in both 9 and 45, all of it shot great.

Sorting thru the collected brass, I was noticing some 9mm brass that had a very noticable ring near the top of the case. I put it all aside, and once I was done with the other cases, looked closer at the ones with the rings. Turns out they were all Aguila cases. No way I had enough aguila cases in my spent brass stockpile that I would have ended up with that many of them from one range visit, so I'm guessing someone in one of the lanes next to me was shooting them.

Not sure if the ammo caused these marks, or if it was the gun that was shooting them. Anyone seen this before? Would you use them for reloads? Some of the cases the ring feels pretty deep, enough to catch a fingernail for sure.

Ok, after searching some more, it appears that Aguila adds this visible crimp to their cases, supposedly to prevent set back. So I guess the question remains, would you reload them? I'll tumble and resize a few and see how they look.

Sure. As long as they run through the dies smoothly. In a super hot load, maybe not.... but for low or moderate loads no problem. You may get a few less loadings from them than other brass, but they should work fine.

All of my 9 mm reloads are from this brass. I bought a thousand from a member here a year ago. I have no troubles with multiple resizing on them.

No problem using that brass. Other companies (Hornady comes to mind?) do something similar. Load 'em up and send 'em downrange!

cool, thanks guys. Even found a pic of some factory aguila with the same crimp mark. I'll dump them all in with my other 9mm cases and reload em.

Nothing to concern yourself with. Like any brass, load it 'til it splits.
