Default What did you do at the range lately?

As a spin-off of this thread, https://www.ar-15.co/threads/87717-W...ing-room-today I thought a "What did you do at the range today" might be cool. After all this is a site about firearms and we are shooters right?

I went to the range with a Revolver and a Bolt Gun, a Smith and Wesson 929 and an Accuracy International PSR. I shot a little bit of revo, maybe 150-200 rounds and then headed over to the rifle range.

I just got a new Bartlien 8 twist barrel in 6CM for it. I got lucky as my old pet load worked just fine. Then I yanked the barrel and swapped it over to 300 Win Mag (4-5 minutes tops to change calibers) for some load development. The first load I tried, 70.0 gns of H-1000 under a Berger 230 gn Hybrid put 5 rounds just under 3/8 at 100 yards. And Tim says this load development stuff is hard... Recoil was a lot less than I had thought it would be. Now to load up 20 more to see how they do at distance. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. Might shoot the 300 this Sunday in Raton.

Took my three daughters 8-15 and one's friend to the pawnee. Shot 1ar, one 10/22, one 308 bolt, one 20 guage, a glock, and a 22 pistol. Shot paper and steel and everyone was safe and had fun.

Started off the day fishing with the two younger girls. It was a good day.

Nothing today but going with my daughter tomorrow - Monday out to Baker Draw. We are going to shoot pistols at paper.

So, you were collecting brass from the school playground?

Went out to Fort Carson to finally get around to sighting in my 260 Rem, 17HMR, 223 Rem and 7mm-08 bolt guns. Shot out at range 2 and there was just two of us.

My 260 Rem likes the 139gr Scenar ammo from Southwest.

Not so much on the Barnes 120 TTSX load

Had fun taking a crack at the steel antelope at 411 yards with my 223 Remington and the scuba tanks at 600+ yards. Antelope was pretty simple but had trouble hearing hits on the scuba tanks.

Helped some Scouts realize they can hit a clay from 100 yards using a .22. Also had several shooting paintballs off golf tees at 50 feet using iron sights. They were lined up to try the (relatively) long range shooting.

Took my 6 Grendel that member AKA Spook built for me out for some load development. Varget was a little high pressure with the really accurate load, so I decided to try H4895 with 105 Berger Hybrids.

I had also swapped out uppers. I had it in a LaRue OBR Lite upper and I moved it to a VLTOR monolithic upper. The monolithic uppers make mounting scopes much easier. And of course, a Thunderbeast suppressor and a S&B 4-16x42.

This is 5 shots at 610 yards. Pretty happy with that.

I took my new 223 Ackley bolt gun to a match yesterday.

I had my new Terminus action barreled by Fritz at Black Canyon Rifles a few weeks ago. This replaced my Bighorn that was being an asshole feeding and caliber with a 223 based case. This action feeds like butter. Much smoother than the Bighorn.

Using a stout load of Varget in Lapua brass, I am pushing 80 gn Sierra bullets just over 3,000 fps.

I really like the minimal recoil and noise. After a string of 7 shots, my RO told me that the timer didnt pick up a single shot. My reply "You say that like its a bad thing." Gotta love Thunderbeast suppressors.

Here is a picture from a couple weeks ago. I was practing shooting off a tripod at 1,000 yards.
