With the limited rollover from last year, I had 227.5 hours total PTO including "Floating Holiday" (sick days). We book 7.5 hour days for PTO, etc. so with paid holidays, I get around 6 weeks off if I can take it all. That's the 10-14 years service plus my seniority from two prior company acquisitions.

We try to take a full week once or twice in the summer for the lake and a few of 4-5 day lake trips. One week during Christmas, one week during Thanksgiving, and a week for hunting. They're not always a full week of days off because if I have to take a work call, I don't book the PTO for those hours.

A few years ago, we actually took a 7 day cruise. No phones, no 'puters. It was glorious.

Rarely can I go a whole week without a work call or emergency of some sort. Last time before PTO I flew back in from Orlando late, worked all night, slept 3 hours and then finished hooking up all the toys and handled more of the emergency on the road while we headed for Pueblo.

Last week I booked 75 hours work including travel to Omaha. I need another break already. haha. July 19 we head out for another week at the lake.

I'm sitting on 9 weeks PTO at the moment. (About the only good thing about my job, pto accrual) I'll have to use some before January it seems.

We don't take many long vacations due to costs of a family of 4. Long weekends sometimes. Got one of these coming up and then I'll probably take a week or two for Elk and Deer season.

Any time I take off, I end up handling some Kid or School thing that crops up. Difficult to get any real rest time.

Wife doesn't get much for PTO, so with many single days here and there for kids, school, doctors, it just doesn't happen.

If I take 1 day off from work, I have 2 days worth waiting for me, no coverage. Sucks.

Like actual vacation? Not just a weekend away? Let's see... I went to Vegas for 3 days back in 2011, that was the last "vacation" I ever went on. I'm going to FL for a wedding on Wednesday, so I guess you can count that. But that's really it, since my "vacation" back to the States while deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. So my answer would be: .5 vacations a year, max.

There are no vacations in Rock And Roll ... just days you don't have shows....

which means your broke and can't afford to go anywhere ...

Why do I like this job again ?

3 weeks per year. I save a little bit for Christmas and a few days in late winter for a long skiing weekend. The rest gets used up randomly throughout the year a day or two at a time.

BTW, my company doesn't let you accrue vacation. Use it or lose it. I actually think it contributes to a healthier work environment, since everyone is used to people taking off time when they need it.

I work for myself - so I get a whopping 0 days of paid vacation. Before I started this I worked for consulting companies, so I also got 0 days of paid vacation a year.

I generally take about 2 weeks off per year - plus random Fridays in the winter for skiing.

Headed to Ouray in 2 weeks to hike some 14ers and do some off-roading for a week.

I take vacation during big game season. Otherwise I haven't taken a real R&R vacation since I became an adult.

I always found it funny that much of Europe thinks Americans don't work as hard as them. I worked for an Italian company that took ALL of August off every year. Same was true at a German company I worked for. In both cases our US office worked the entire month while the main office in Italy/Germany was on vacation. And in both cases they regularly made comments about lazy Americans.
