I saw a bear get hit on SB I-25 just south of Northgate a few days ago. He sprinted from west to east. Traffic was light and everyone slowed and or maneuvered except the dumbass that hit it. Whatever they were doing in that car paying attention to the surroundings was not part of it.

Not judging whether it was the wrong or right thing to do. My questions are why grab two shotguns when you didn't have any idea what was out there. Competitive shotguns - what were they loaded with and what is the choke on them? If this was me, from now on I'd have the plug out plus a magazine extension loaded to "bear" for any protection issue that may arise. Five plus in one gun is better than reaching for a second gun. Then, when I go out competitive shooting, I have plenty of time to change out the shotgun to meet those requirements.

    Anyway, glad she is safe.

That doesn't fix the ignorance displayed in the original quote. And I'm not convinced, by the girl's own account, that the bear threatened her. It also doesn't change the fact that black bears almost always see humans as a threat rather than a meal.

Treadwell was killed by grizzlies. Not a black bear. Big difference.

I spent some time as an employee at Glacier National Park. Ran into a number of bear. Some with cubs. One bear I could have reached out and petted...we surprised each other. ALL were black bears and all made great effort to put distance between me and them. The one I surprised at arms length as I came around a corner on a hike took off like a bolt of lighting, uphill. Sucker was fast. First downed tree he found he took cover behind. I watched him peeking up over the log as I hiked away.

I'm not the least bit worried about black bears. I grew up in the mountains in CO and know many people who have had bears get in their house. Each and every one ran away when they heard people.

As for Grizzly. I hope I never run into one of those guys. Mean SOB's. Fortunately we don't have any grizzly here.

Bottom line is any bear is a wild animal, one that has the power to put a hurting on you in a hurry.
I'm always going to air on the side of caution personally, if I feel threatened I have no problem defending human life above any animal.

Just like if a deer/elk/what ever runs out in front of me at the last second ill mow it down every time vs, swerving and potentially rolling my truck.
    But hey, that's just me.
