Default Explosive Warning From the Santa Fe Nat Forest.

Just got this from an email chain. I've heard chatter in the past few months about the suspicious nature of some of the recent forest fires. Apparently the online mag that the Boston boys used for their device also featured an article on starting forest fires as terrorism. Add in the power plant attacks and now we have this.

    "ATTENTION ALL FIELD GOING EMPLOYEES:

As most of you have heard, there was an incident on the Jemez Ranger District involving an explosive device that appears to have been deliberately placed at the base of an information sign. The device was constructed with a mason jar. It was placed on the ground with no camouflaging material to conceal it from view. When tapped with the boot of the individual, the device detonated. Thankfully, the individual’s injuries were minor. At present, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm, and Explosives has taken the lead on the investigation. No additional devices have been found on the Forest.

Due to this incident, many employees have expressed some concern about their safety while working in the field. So what can you do to protect yourself?

First, stay vigilant and increase your “situational awareness.” Look up, down, and all around. If something appears “out of place” or “not quite right” (i.e. a suspicious looking object), do not disturb it! Move away from the area and immediately contact law enforcement.

Second, work in pairs if possible so that a second person is right there in the event of an accident.

Finally, always have appropriate communication devices readily available and be sure to adhere to our Forest’s Check-Out and Check-In Program.

Anything "bad" does not make it terrorism. Terrorism has the specific goal of changing how a large population acts. The towers were a text book example of real terrorism. America has become afraid of its own shadow because of those attacks. They affect our daily lives... as a whole. Labeling EVERYTHING "Terrorism" leaves us less prepared to deal with real terrorism.

Those of you crying terrorism realize that this is almost guaranteed to be some lone whackjob US citizen, right?

What terrorists are going to waste their resources and risk being discovered by placing a couple moonshine bombs on forest trails?

More specifically, I'd lean much more toward one of these teenage wanna/gonna be mass killers doing some pre-event testing, which is pretty much a pattern with every one of them that's used explosives. Or some home grown wackjob that's a wanna be jihadist. But I'd honestly be shocked if this was from anyone of middle-eastern persuasion, because of exactly what Ridge mentioned, they normally know exactly how to get the job done so they don't waste time testing, especially in what one would assume is the taget country.

You and the pup missed the sarcasm, of my post. I guess if there's no smiley icon, it gets taken seriously.

Curious, how would you Mr. Homeland Security Czar Mr. Hound prepare and "deal" with real terrorism? Which unfortunately, like calling someone a Racist, has been abused beyond imagination.
