Default "Millennials' Political Views Don't Make Any Sense"

    Well color me shocked.

I used try and make it a point to ask for intellectual honesty when I was discussing difficult social issues with people. I've slowly realized that most people are simply incapable of it. They just don't see the contradictions in the positions they *feel* are right. (Using the state of the environment in China as evidence that we need government intervention to keep the environment clean or decrying terrorist tactics in one breath and defending the IRA in the next... freaking ridiculous.)

Yeah...sounds about right judging from most of the younger people I've had the "pleasure" of talking with.

I get offended when people call me a "Millennial"- just because of my age. I do not think like these people, I do not associate with them, and more over, I am not an idiot like the ones surveyed in that article. This is the future of our country, and it is very frightening.

I'll echo this sentiment. If I'm being completely honest, my generation just plain sucks. My only comfort is in knowing that I don't associate with these degenerates. They've all got five different social media accounts that they're glued to 18 hours a day, but can't spend five minutes reading a book (no exaggeration).

If you really want to feel hopeless about the future, ask someone under the age of 26 what the last political event they took part in was, or ask them what they know about 20th century history. Anything that happened more than a year ago and wasn't on MTV "doesn't matter".

And to think all these idiots in that video probably graduated high school and are enrolled in a college. The shit show that is the millennial generation is a direct representation of our public school system, who's running it, and how they are running it. It's no longer a matter of incompetence, it is deliberate. IMHO I believe they are deliberately dumbing down the population.

X2. I'm 22 and immediately get thrown in that category as "the generation that's destroying America" but like you said, I don't think like them, don't associate with them, etc. My dad is an ex Marine so I grew up with him raising me right and beating my ass when I got out of line. I can't tell you how many times I would go to a friends house in high school and these kids would cuss out their parents and all they would do is say "Hey, watch your language." And that's it....That's why all my friends are either late 20's or early 30's. I can't stand anyone around my age...

Our daughter is 31. She calls and says, DAD there's some protesters stepping on the flag, i'm going over and kick their ass. She like other youngsters here is not cut from the same FSA cloth.

I guess I'm a millenial too, and indeed much of my generation is dumb. Though I'll point out it extends well beyond our generation; we're just the latest in a long line of dumb.

Can't find the clip (think NBC has it locked up), but there was one with Jay Leno asking people basic (and I mean very basic) questions off the immigration test. People getting it totally wrong. At the end, you have some teens get it wrong, then they ask their parents, they get it wrong. Only when he goes to grandpa, who was an immigrant himself, does he get the exact answer spot-on instantly.

I'm still of the mind that you should have to pass a basic citizenship test in order to vote, renewed every 5-10 years or so.

I think the author mean to name that article "All young people are stupid and should be treated like children, and I hate all of them".

Are there a bunch of young people who are stupid? Absolutely. But you know what else? There's a shitload of older people that are just as stupid, if not more so. I think it's worse to be older and stupid, because in theory you should know more about how the world works at an older age.

Also, you guys talking about how stupid "millenials" are and how they are the future and we are in trouble...you're assuming that all of us "millenials" are going to stay stupid. Well let me ask you this...remember when you were young? I would be willing to bet that you would refer to your younger self as "dumb", correct? How easy it is to forget that smart people can do some dumb things, but they can learn from them.

And just an aside here...the derogatory generalization of a whole group of people, as well as the way that group of people thinks, is something that people on this forum get pretty up in arms about when it comes to gun owners. "A few bad apples don't spoil the bunch" you say. Well be consistent I would ask...don't automatically assume people are (insert adjective here) because they are a part of a certain group of people.

OT of the article though...I think younger people have different political views than older generations because alot of us are fed up with the choice between a "shit sandwich and a giant douche" (South Park reference...damn those millenials and their cartoons...). I think it's fantastic that younger people's political views are all over the board. Uninformed opinions are never helpful...and like I said earlier I would imagine there were just as many older people who judged our Great and Powerful Leader by the color of his skin instead of by the content of his character. But I think that the spread of political views across this demographic is going to be a good thing in the long run. Honestly if you older generations don't like it...it won't matter because you'll be dead and gone by the time we get to be your age.
