The depth on the long one is just enough to fit an AR. The strength comes from the height. We could make the pistol version shorter, but I don't know that it would be strong enough. Short answer, no.

I would be very interested in a product like this. I was thinking of more of a coat rack design to hide an AR

We have lots of progress to report. The primed and painted versions have been tested now. We will be offering five color choices in each size. They are as follows:

Wood Grained Melamine - They are arranged from left to right. I took pics in bright sunlight (top set) and under artificial light in my office (lower set)
    1. Summit
    2. Basalt
    3.Vail

    Painted
    4. Primed, ready for you to paint the color of your choice
    5. Primed and painted satin black.

This is a pic of a primed pistol shelf.

Here's the painted pistol shelf in the close position. Sorry I don't have it in a fancy background, I've run out of empty walls around the house!

This is the painted pistol shelf in the open position. Notice we changed the interior color to black. No reason for that other than that it looks cool.

This is a video of the magnetic lock. The units will come with a magnet. Hold it one way to lock, the other to unlock. Stick the magnet to something nearby to keep it handy Shoot, if your house has steel corner bead under the drywall, you can just stick it to the wall.

    Final pricing is as follows:

    Pistol size shelf

    Wood Grained Melamine $200
    Primed, ready for paint $225
    Primed, painted satin black $250

    Rifle size shelf

    Wood Grained Melamine $225
    Primed, ready for paint $250
    Primed, painted satin black $275

Stay tuned for a special introductory offer to the COAR crowd. I'll have details in a couple days.

This is way cool. It would be wise to invest in a Patent on this design.

Would there be a way to reverse the pieces so that your drawer opens from it w/o moving the top panel? This would allow you to open it w/o worrying about whatever you have in top moving around and getting in the way of weapon retrieval or falling over.
