I completed my "not-so-dedicated upper!

It went to the mountains this weekend and it performed awesome. It is a Brownells upper, 16" 5.56 barrel 1x9, FSB, carbine gas system, forward assist, charging handle, Matech BUIS. Fits good on my lower and you just drop in the CMMG kit and away you go. BCM mags worked good (I broke them in before going).

We did do some work to the CMMC Kit/BCG. We cleaned it (CMMG test fires the kit), and lubed the 5.56 casing on the kit with choke tube lube. This is the piece that can get lodged in you chamber and be a pain to remove. clean of the excesse and CLP the carrier. I also cycled the mechanism a bunch, both in the rifle and removed with just my fingers. I heard a lot about break-in and wanted to avoid it with both the kit and the mags.

1 FTF / FTE out of 70+ rounds.

Probably my fault, it was like the 3rd round and I couldn't imagine that there was enough energy to load another round, so I pulled the charging handle back to check and there was a round in the chamber, closed it and then I got the FTF.

I cant believe how little pop and recoil there is. It was trippin me out. I had to shoot some 5.56 to make sure I still had my ear protection on.


I dont know how accurate it is or will ever be. I only bore sighted it with no optic. I just wanted to see how if it would work, and what ammo it liked (if any). It shot great in rapid fire and functioned well generally. I will take it to the range soon and try to get a better idea of how accurate it can be, as well as shoot some 5.56 through it for testing.

But as far as putting those left over parts to use and having a near exact mockup of your tactical or service rifle it is really nice. I am free-floating my good rifle and the rail and grip are going on the .22lr. Not to mention the project pays for itself on after a couple of cases of ammo. And you have a spare, backup, or parts upper ready to rock!

Ended up being about the same cost as a dedicated .22lr upper from Spike's or TacSol.
