Don't sugar coat it! She said she'd hope that she'd be better than a white male. That is specific and totally different than saying "anyone else." In fact, if she had said "I feel that I'd do the best job, better than ANYONE ELSE." This quote would not be an issue. It's totally okay to think you are the best, and better than everyone else; that is the mind set of every athlete out there. The more I think about it, the more it sounds like she totally got suckered and trapped with that question.
So let's all take a life lesson from this example. If you ever want to say you are better than someone else, make sure you specify that you think you're better than everyone in the room, and everyone in the world. That way people call you cocky and won't buy you a beer. As opposed to people calling you racist and slashing your tires.![]()
