I grew up there. The reason the winters are soo bad is that they chill you to the bone. There is a lot of moisture in the Ozark's. That is why the summers are really hot and winters are really cold. Just walking around you get this film of 'wet' that freezes you when the cold wind hits. It also make the trees get this coating of ice that can be very beautiful but shows how cold it is out there. Missouri can be great but the extremes of each season are common. Fall can be like a stereotype from a book, Spring is very wet. This also makes the bugs get the maximum of what they need. The ticks, chiggers, Mosquitos, etc are a handful. I love Missouri but am gonna stick with CO. BTW... MO is the Meth capital of the world (the other post is completly right on this one). That is no joke. A lot of people are dirt poor and Meth is cheap to make. One oddity is that you will have to get a full perscription to get simple cough/sleep medicine. This is due to again the meth, codine is apparently a main ingredient.
