Default MAIG Activist Mike Merrifield plans to run for seat vacated by John Morse

    http://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2013...s-former-seat/

The influence of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was a thorn in the side of gun control proponents during the recall elections, and Bloomberg’s specter will continue to haunt the race for John Morse’s former Senate seat, Senate District 11.

That’s because former Rep. Mike Merrifield (D-Colorado Springs), who previously was the Colorado State Director for Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), is running for the seat.

Evidently this fight isn't over, and the Democrats are learning disabled. Expect Bloomberg to throw more money into the 2014 Colorado Springs race.

Would love to see someone run an ad against him playing off the old Pace Picante salsa commercials:

Cowboy 1: "well where does mike get his financial support?"
Cowboy 2: (reading thick campaign disclosure paperwork) "Says here, his money is from New York City"
Cowboys 1,3-7: (Chorus) "New York City?!?"

I expect him to throw money at more races than the springs. Be interesting to see if Mr Merrifield makes it past the (D) primaries.

Bloomberg has deep enough pockets to play in every state political race in the nation. Unless he suddenly loses his fascination with outlawing guns, we're stuck with Bloomberg for a long while yet.

I fully expect Senate District 11 to go back to the Democrats regardless of whom they run (although Merrifield is a weak candidate) SD11 is so ridiculously gerrymandered it'll be hard to keep in Republican hands.

That said, if the rest of the state Senate goes R (which it very well could) then it doesn't matter who SD11 sends to Denver, they'll be in the minority.

I am afraid that he might get tired of the "local scene" in NY and decide to go national.

When Ross Perot ran for president, he had deep pockets, but was not affiliated with one of the major two parties.
He collected close to 20% of the votes, none the less.

With Bloomberg's deep pockets AND affiliation with a major party, he may be unbeatable as a presidential candidate.

Right now, Bloomberg is a pest....let's home he does not become another PITA.

At his age, it'd be a struggle nationally (he'd be 74 in 2016) - other players are likely already ramping up for '16 and would not take kindly to a newcomer on the national scene edging them out simply due to checkbook ability. Additionally, he'd have to buy friends, and while that's true of most politicians, Bloomberg may have to spend a bit more than others in light of some of his baggage. He's got a few other things going against him as well.
