Default BigBears' Intensive, Project Appleseed, v2014

I am proud to announce that we are a "go" for the 2015 Appleseed Intensive.

    Who: 6-8th graders
What: Constitutional History and the Revolutionary War week long lab class, with a day at the range
    When: March 16-19, 7:30 a.m. -3:45 p.m.
Where: Classroom for Mon/Tues, range on Wed, presentations on Thurs
Why: Those who do not know history...

Details: With the gracious and awesome help of Project Appleseed and other volunteers, we have several Revolutionary War re-enactors come out and talk about military/civilian life during the time period. In class we learn of the history surrounding the Revolutionary War; why it happened in relation to the "three strikes" and the founding of our nation and the Constitution. The kids have projects such as learning about symbols through making their own flags, they learn to cast wax bullets, in-depth stories/discussions that just don't have the time to be covered in a traditional history class, firearm safety and basic marksmanship skills and how they relate to our founding as a country, and the such. We learn about rifles and have a hands on demonstration of different firearm types. We also have a "range day" where we review the basics of firearm safety and marksmanship (how to shoot, different positions) using live ammo on .22lr rifles. Kids also have the opportunity to try some larger calibers if everyone is in agreement.... This year I would love to get a cannon out there the kiddos can fire off, maybe some surprise tannerite... I don't know, lots of ideas to make it fun (BUT SAFE!).

Needs: We could use some donations in monetary form (hoping to raise around $2K to cover the cost of getting people in, insurance/etc paperwork, classroom supplies, reserving the range, etc), ammunition (22lr only), and volunteers to help out with the range day (and who are also more than welcome AND encouraged to come to the classroom portions as well). It was a huge hit last year, this year will be bigger and better. If you've ever wanted to attend an Appleseed shoot but weren't sure about it, here is your chance to check them out!

Financial donations may be given to me via paypal or mailed directly to the school. If you choose to send to the school PLEASE contact me first so we can make sure they go to the correct intensive or it might just get thrown into the "general fund" which means we will never see it again. Contact me for more information.

So, questions/comments/concerns/etc... let me hear them. Thanks for your time.

    Thank you,
    Tim aka BigBear

Kudos to you Bear !!! I spent 20 years on the ranges with the Scouts, and teaching firearms safety and marksmanship was a great reward many times over.

Common sense is a punishment for having to deal with those who don't have it.

Well done Tim, good to know you are already locked in for next year.

The event this year was a blast and I am in for next year.

Thread made sticky as requested. When do you need donations by? I'm in for at least something, cash and ammo. Currently figuring out job situation, so I won't know how big that something can be until that is more solidified. Shouldn't be too long.

Also, any idea on the ability to write off donations on taxes?

i won't need actual donations until after Christmas break. I just wanted to put the bug in people's ear so they start thinking about it. As far as tax write offs, I have no idea. Any guidance on figuring that out would be appreciated.
