    Default Computer help needed AGAIN.

HELP, once again the OLD guy needs some more computer help. I am not at all computer savvy like so many guys here so I need some guidance. I have a HP desk top computer with Windows XP (yeah, I know it's an OLD system)
For years, I could insert an SD card (memory stick or what ever they are called) directly into the SD card slot and the computer screen would immediately show a medium size square of info with choices of what we want done with the photos on the SD card. As I said this has been the way we have been transferring the card info to the computer. We normally would choose to VIEW the contents but other choices were SLIDE SHOW, SAVE CONTENTS TO A FOLDER etc, etc.... Now, suddenly, we no longer have the option of choosing what we want done with the contents and the pictures show up immediately as soon as the card is inserted. I hope someone knows what I am talking about and give a reasonable explanation on how to regain the choice option as we have been getting/using for YEARS. Please, no bull shit comments/ideas as I have been farting around with this thing for hours, am losing my patience and still cannot come up with the option that we now no longer have available. I seriously doubt if the brand of SD cards have anything to do with the loss of the option we formerly had however the SD cards being used are Sandisk and Sony.
    HELP!!

    1. Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type autoplay, and then click AutoPlay.
    2. In the list next to the device or type of media, click the new action you want to use.

Please advise whether this helps or not.

Chuck, thanks for the suggestion but that didn't get what we want. I am not really sure about AutoPlay but that sounds like what we are currently getting and NOT wanting. What I really need is the small square screen listing the options of exactly what we want done with the pictures on the SD card. As indicated earlier, now when we insert the SD card, we immediately get the pictures without the option of what we want done with the card contents. Many thanks anyhow!!

In XP you will have to go to "My Computer"; then right-click on the SD card and go to "Properties"; then select the "AutoPlay" tab.
On the AutoPlay tab you can select what you want the computer to do with each type of file it encounters.
You previously had "Prompt me each time"

Delfuego has the correct answer. XP is a bit different than 7 and 8.

Delfuego, many thanks... The sample screen that you showed is exactly the screen I was looking for. We actually went to the G drive, clicked properties, auto play etc. It WORKED!!!
Thanks again to cstone and Delfuego for the quick help. Boy, this sure saves me from doing a whole lot of cussing today.

You can bet that I'll never touch that dang tab again in the future. For all the grief it cost me, I have learned my lesson well and I appreciate the fact that no one got on my case for doing something so dumb.
