Got to page 2 before seeing this article's political bias... Alaska is ranked #50 because they are not allowed to explore for more oil and natural gas... they are limited to the same Prudhoe bay area that they were allowed in the 70's... of course production is down, the area is now dry.

Goes to show the rankings are highly related to oil production.. except California... Liberal reporting at it's lowest- but what else would you expect from Pravda, er MSN..
Looking further, they're not ranking economies, they're ranking economy improvement and cherry picking data to suit their political agenda. They want Alaska to be ranked last because it's associated with Sarah Palin, and they want Colorado ranked first because it's a recent conversion to blue state... to get Texas down to #3, and California ranked #2, they probably cherry picked data to suit their agenda.
