Meh, my first experience with full auto was a full mag. The difference was that I had decent (not extensive) experience with handling rifles beforehand and had shot the weapon (M-16A1) in semi-auto first. Some of the other cadets hadn't had any experience but again, were able to shoot it in semi-auto first to get accustomed to it before going full tilt and we were all college age, not 9.

I feel bad primarily for the girl as she is probably traumatized now and secondarily for the instructor but I think she should have got more familiarization with how the weapon handled and dealing with the recoil in semi-auto before going full.

I got my daughter to start shooting a .22LR bolt action when she was 9 years old. One finger squeeze and then a bolt she was too weak to move herself. No rapid fire, and a high likelyhood of survival if she managed to swing a long bull barrel rifle around toward someone. I find that instructor to be irresponsible. I can't imagine what that girl will be going through for the rest of her life after that.

    Tragic.

Watching this video reminds me of every flight instructor who gets into an aircraft with a student. While you want to encourage learning, there are consequences for advancing students too quickly.

My prayers go out to the family of the instructor, the girl and everyone who was there when this happened.

just nucking futs to put such a young person with absolutely zero gun experience in that position with that weapon. Just makes no sense to me why you'd go straight to full auto with anyone with zero experience with guns, let alone such a small young person.

I'm sorry the Instructor was killed but poor decision making on his part led to the conclusion.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

My heart goes out to the families but I'm also a little pissed at the poor decision making here.

Yet Another black eye for gun owners. The anti's and news media are running ramped with this one. I expect Obumer to make a statement any minute now about how evil guns are.

    My first thought.

I feel for the girl. That's sad.

I was going to say, "what was he thinking?" But clearly, he wasn't.

I don't care if she was 40. I wouldn't be breaking the 90 with ANY new shooter with an automatic weapon, period. Hell, I don't want to be breaking the 90 with anyone, regardless of competency.
