    Default .338 setup

I'm thinking I want to build up a 18" .338 federal. I haven't seen very many barrels out there and mostly DPMS. I won't do DPMS for this gun. Any one out there have a line on good barrels for .338 federal (AR10 platform)?

JP offers them and GAP offers GAP10's in 338 federal so they might sell you a barrel. Both top of the line.

GAP barrels are more than likely going to be Bartlein barrels, I know the one on my .308 is. Very accurate, quality shit, with the price tag to match!

Ok I'll call. I started thinking about .338 Federal a few weeks ago and now I can't get the cartridge off my mind. I'm pretty sure a new build is starting.

I have some 200 grainers for you when you get it all together.

With those short little SR-25 mags you wont be getting much in the way of velocity. Might be a better caliber in a short action bolt gun.

The .338 federal is based on the .308 win and has a C.O.A.L. Of 2.75in. compared to the .308 which is 2.800 so there will be no issue with the mag length.

Just load it to mag length and let the rifle tell you what it likes. Obviously, you aren't picking .338 Federal because it's a barn burner.

But with a longer bolt gun magazine you seat the bullets out to chase the throat as the barrel wears. With SR-25/Magpul LR mags you are stuck around 2.800 and with a bolt gun you can go a touch over 3.00

Might be a fun little caliber for shooting pigs with an AR-10.
