Default Bystanders save officer (Woman) being beaten by suspect along I-25

    http://kdvr.com/2014/09/08/bystander...ct-along-i-25/

"DENVER — Two passers-by saved a police officer Saturday as she was allegedly being beaten by a suspect on the side of the road, the Denver Police Department reported.
About 5 p.m. Saturday, Officer Aubree Thompson contacted Stephen Hamper, 26, along the on-ramp leading from Downing Street to I-25, DPD said. Witnesses had reported that Hamper was washing clothes in a drain on the highway.
Thompson judged that the suspect was acting strange, and moved to handcuff him. She was able to get one cuff on, but Hamper then attacked her, punching her several times in the face, DPD alleged.
Hamper broke loose from Thompson, and ran to her patrol car, possibly looking for a weapon or her keys. He then returned and resumed beating the officer in her face and body, DPD said. Officer Thompson was knocked to the ground, and Hamper managed to pin her and continue striking her, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Hamper then allegedly tried to take Thompson’s pistol, but she was able to retain it.
Thompson said she saw a citizen standing nearby and could hear him telling Hamper to get off of her and to stop. Two other citizens subsequently stopped and helped Thompson wrestle Hamper into custody, DPD said.
Police allege that during the assault, Hamper said, “If I would have gotten her gun, I would have killed her. You guys kill children and old ladies.”
Hamper has prior arrests for domestic violence, harassment involving physical force, obstructing police, burglary, trespassing in a dwelling, property damage, DUI and careless driving, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The officer was out of the hospital Monday night."

Jeez. Too bad she didn't get to shoot this dumbass.

makes me wonder, what would happen if you shot this guy while CCW. I think a medal from hickenlooper would be in order, but he would probably have the da press charges.

I know your comments were probably tongue-in-cheek, but any half-assed lawyer could defend a lethal use of force in that instance. Because, obviously, the suspect was attempting to get the officer's gun. Her life, and others, would have been in imminent danger had he actually taken her gun. There's no way that couldn't be seen as a good shoot, even by Hickenlooper.

So you're saying that an unarmed suspect could, in fact, be an imminent danger to an officer and that deadly force could be justified? Hmmm...

Yep. One need not a weapon to be considered a danger. But SHHHH! Don't tell liberals that, they'll freak out and call you a liar.

Without going into the "going to the car possibly looking for keys or her gun" fiasco...

I'm reminded of the movie "the girl with the dragon tatto." When the guys escaping after trying to kill the guy, the girl asks "may I kill him?" And the dude nods his head. I can see this cop doing the same.

Not always, depending how PC the dept is. My nephew's in the academy, back east. Seeing how it was going, he said. Here's a question on my latest test, for using deadly force. He got it wrong.

IF an assailant is 15' from you and approaching with a knife can you use deadly force?

I'll leave this here a few then give you the PD policy answer.
