Thanks for the reminder, guys. It was indeed time to recharge the big silica gel can in the safe.
This is the stuff I use; http://www.midwayusa.com/product/183...-50-cubic-feet
No rust so far.

I wish technology solved people issues. It seems to just reveal them.

You guys and gals with swamp coolers need to check your guns quite often for surface rust.

I picked up a product from Home Depot called DampRid, it comes in about a quart sized container with crystal absorbent material for under $3.00. I had it in the safe for the last six months and had no signs of rust or dampness. I went moving stuff around yesterday and the canister was sloshing with water. This stuff actually absorbs and TRAPS the water in a reservoir below the crystals, there was well over a cup in there!
Picked up a refill pack (good for 4 refills) for under $4.00 and its back in place doing its job. As mentioned before, evaporative cooler probably contributed a lot.
Anyone else use this stuff? I'm real impressed with it.

Apparently that stuff is acidic. SHouldn't be a problem if you don't spill it everywhere.
I have two of what Opie linked to. They are pretty good. They are easy to recharge because you just plug them in for a few hours. So I have two in my executive safe where I keep my Obama phones and I have it timed where one will need recharging before the other is done.
I've never had a problem. I get to see my guns every 6 months and have never sen a speck of rust.

Basements are typically more humid. And being very close to the lake doesn't help either.
