Heaven forbid that someone should try to enforce the immigration laws in this country. Apparently the DHS and Justice Depts only want to go after those who deserve the rights and protections this nation is supposed to provide.

Things seem so backwards to me these days. If you are an illegal immigrant (and, by default, a criminal), you get full protection from harassment and from the aw enforcement communities, you get lots of taxpayer provided services and you get full Constitutional protections (which I incorrectly assumed just applied to CITIZENS). If you are a taxpaying citizen, you lose most of your income to taxes for BS causes, you get harassed by law enforcement officials (yes, it has happened to me even though I used to be one and always treat them with coutesy, politeness, and as non-offensive as possible), you get told that law enforcement isnt here to protect you (unless you're an illegal, see above), you get to pay higher and higher fees for your services, and your Constitutional RIGHTS are stomped on like they are the parade ground in Nazi Germany.

    I just don't get it.

Living in Maryvale which is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in phoenix I realized quickly how illegal immigration effects people day to day. Obviously I had lots of friend who were illegal whose families worked hard every day to try and make it but also we were the victims of many crimes perpetrated by illegals including an attempted home invasion and an actual home invasion.

Sheriff Joe has the right idea by enforcing immigration law but if he would spend less time being a media whore I think there would be less flak from the feds.

Also after talking to a few Maricopa County Sheriffs Department Officers they are unhappy with all of the press and just wish they could do their jobs without being judged before hand because they work for Sheriff Joe.

During my time with the highway patrol I realized we had little power to deal with this situation. I heard that many of the illegals that I arrested ended up being deported but never knew that for a fact.

Now that the mayor of phoenix is attacking the sheriff and claiming he has ties to skin heads it will be interesting to see what happens...

Guntroll, personally I think 115 degrees is easier to deal with then anything under 50 but that is coming from a Phoenix native. I do not look forward to the CO winters...

It's about time. Nothing against LEGAL immigrants, most of us are, or are descended from one. The difference is IL-legal immigrants. What is so controversial about sending someone back to their country of origin when they illegally enter our country? Every other country in the world does the same thing or worse...

I really thought there would be a stronger demand for deporting illegals, and cutting off their governmental welfare when government budgets became strapped and unemployment neared 10%. Are they really just doing jobs "Americans refuse to do"??

Even if we paid for 1st class plane tickets, rented a moving van, and moved all of their property with them, it would still be cheaper than paying for school for X number of kids for each illegal family at $7-20,000 per kid per year, in addition to food stamps, welfare, health care, etc., etc.

    WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE??!!

Besides in the Maricopa County SO that is...

I forgot to mention the illegals who aren't coming here to work (at least not for legal enterprises). In other words, drug dealers, human traffickers, prostitution runners (pimps), murderers, gang members, or worst of all...terrorists.

But to me that just seems to go without saying.

Man you can always put another layer on when needed but when its hot you could go naked and still be sweating balls. Try living in western WY. It will put almost anywhere in CO to shame for cold levels. Boulder would seem like Phoenix compared to my last home.

And to stay on topic.....Shame on the Mayor. Probably lib.

Easiest way to solve the illegal immigrant problem is to stop having retarded immigration laws.

Then at least you know the ones coming over the border are there because they are actual criminals, not just guys wanting a job and not able to wait the decade or so it takes to get approved. The biggest camo for the actual bad guys (murderers, thugs, and so forth) that come in from Mexico use are all the fairly decent people who are willing to work for a wage.

No doubt there is a problem, but I think the approach given here ignores the root cause.

Interesting article related to the illegal immigration issue:

    http://www.reason.com/blog/show/134284.html

You know that your state is in trouble when even illegal immigrants have stopped moving there.
Since 2006, illegal immigration to the United States seems to be leveling off, after a huge spike in the 1990s and early '00s. These days, we're holding steady at a crop-pickin', lawn-mowin', dish-washin' 11.9 million.

The immigrants who do come, according to today's Pew Daily Number, have been shifting to states other than the traditional California option. Since the state is in a spending binge, population bleed, and general downward spiral, you have to give the illegals credit for being forward looking.
More on illegal/undocumented/unauthorized/differently papered immigrants here.
Another way to solve the illegal immigrant problem: spend yourself out of prosperity.

Here's something interesting from the linked article as well:

But the most efficient way to address those concerns is by making it easier for illegals to function in the light of day, where they would have every reason to pay all the taxes the rest of us do. And to enter the country through official checkpoints (and to leave the country through the same gates). This isn’t just idle guesswork. In October 2005, the National Immigration Forum and the conservative Manhattan Institute surveyed 233 illegal Latino immigrants in Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Fully 98 percent of respondents said they would legalize their status if given the opportunity. (81 percent said they would “live and work in the United States” for the rest of their lives.) Ninety-one percent said they would pay a $1,000 fine to come clean and 96 percent said they would submit to a criminal background check. Seventy percent said they would pay any back taxes they owed as a condition of legalization and 87 percent said they would enroll in an English class. A vanishingly small proportion of illegal immigrants come here to live in the shadows of American prosperity.

An illegal immigrant saying they'll pay back taxes and their actually doing it are two very different, alien things.

**I updated my post, I said latino when I meant illegal immigrant.
