Usually, this kind of complain is from things that have been going on and allowed to built up to this point. Instead of losing your cool, walk over the neighbor, apologize profusely and take steps to avoid future issue. I would do this even if I don't think it is my fault.

My shep attacked neighbor's mini poodle after being barked at nonstop from their side of the fence. The neighbor flipped out, yelling and screaming while I dragged my dog back inside. Few min later, both the spousal unit and I walked over, apologized, offered to pay any vet bill etc. Neighbor felt bad and apologized for losing temper. She admitted she let her little dog bark out of control whenever she out in the garden area. Things have been good since then. The dogs are still on their pissing contest along the fence line! Poodle learnt her lesson... always ran whenever she sees the shep. *smirk

Much as I'd love to sympathize with you, you have 5 dogs even though you know the city limits you to 3? Or did you not know there was a limit? Most people don't bother researching restrictions like numbers or types of pets so I don't blame you if you didn't know until getting the letter but it's harder to sympathize if you DID know and got the 4th and 5th dogs anyway.

Personally, dogs barking don't bother me like people blasting loud "music" in their cars or late at night (when I say loud, I mean I can feel -- not hear, FEEL -- it in my car a lane or two over) but I can see where 5 dogs barking might get on someone's nerves, especially if they feel it wasn't the first time.

9:45? Pfft, that's early. I have drunken college students walking by my apartment yelling at each other at 2am on almost a nightly basis!

Lex doesn't horde dogs. I think that number was reached unintentionally with no plans to repeat. However, I'll let him speak for himself.

5 dogs, at least 2 of them being pits out barking, I'm guessing this wasn't the first time it's happened. No one calls on a dog barking for a few minutes. I'd have probably called as well.

There are reasons laws exist. Can you imagine if every household had 5 dogs?

This is my thought as well, 430 AM comes quick as it is.

I have some stupid ass hounds next door that like to howl for no freaking reason. Drives me INSANE. Yes my dog will bark a bit at something or someone but its no longer than a minute before he sees me coming out to apply some "physical correction"... He usually quits when he sees me......LOL. Love my dog but he also needs manners....

I've always talked to the neighbors with barking dogs at least 2 times before I call the police. After all, we're neighbors.....

Last place I lived, a stupid old lady would tie up here chocolate lab for HOURS and he would bark for hours... She got too verbal warnings from me and told her each time that I don't want to call the city but I will if I have too.

I think a neighbor called once and I called another time. She always denied it every time probably thinking I have an IQ less than room temp..... After a few tickets she finally got the message.

Barking dogs can be a very subjective situation on both sides of the argument. All you can do is keep an open mind and try working with your neighbor on the situation. Some times peoples expectations of a dog situation are unrealistic. But a lot of times both sides don't even attempt to resolve the situation in person. You can't successfully come to a resolution until you at least talk about the details of the situation.

I have two small dogs and a recently retired next door neighbor who has nothing better to do than sit at home all day waiting for opportunities to whine about our dogs barking. We have talked to him in person about it, tried several solutions on our end, and even gotten animal control pulled into the situation to evaluate our measures to reduce the barking. We have done a lot to keep our dogs barking to a minimum with restricted access to the back yard, shocking bark collars, etc and we have noticed the barking drop to a near zero level. All of the things we have done to reduce the barking were reviewed by Animal Control and they approve of the solutions and feel that we have done our best to minimize the barking.

The latest "complaint" from the neighbor is that when he is in his back yard and bangs on the fence between our properties, our dogs bark if they are in the back yard at the same time. I tried to explain to him that if he intentionally tries to trigger a barking scenario by beating on the fence while he is in the back yard then there is nothing I can do to stop my Dogs from barking at him. He thinks that they should never bark regardless of what he is doing in his back yard and I have gotten to the point of telling him to simply get over it and be realistic about the situation. He is a stubborn old coot with nothing better to do with his time, so I think this is just a game he likes to play to kill time during the day. He also complains about any other noisy things that happen in our neighborhood and I told him that maybe its time for him to move to some place else that is more quiet. He does not like it much when I offer him that solution.

    I'm lost...
1.Over the allowance for the amount of animals one can have. (I'm guessing not farm or rural area)
    2. Licenses expired (don't people let these lapse because the shots are not current?)
    3. Five dogs barking at 10pm. (I go to bed at 8:30 with my windows open)

All that was done is a note in the mail?........ Seems like the neighbors deserve a "rant" on our forum.
.... Also, why does it need to take "hours" of barking to disturb somebody? 5 dogs barking for a few seconds would wake me up pretty quick.
